If they can't fix it I would say ok I'm done being a trainer
Put me in a 07 columbia with a apu ! Problem solved !
I think the new trks are zero idle so they are in compliance
With the new idle laws most states now have. That's why they will
Only idle below 15 degrees and above 90 degrees , not sure on those
But I think I'm close. Also don't forget about another power robber
And that's the quallcom mcp 200 which has to boot up every 60 minutes
So ma roehl can keep a eye on all us outlaw truckers.
You can also sleep well at 60 degrees know most of the battery
Power is also keeping your engine warm. Santa I want a thermal
Artic sleeping bag so I can sleep in my new roehl truck !![]()

Immediate supervisor. The only other option is safety. -

I am pretty sure Roehl would never let us "organize" even in that limited capacity. As far as these idle laws go, I'm not really sure that any of them have faced a serious court challenge on the driver health and safty front. I can not believe any judge in the country would rule that a human should die of exposure, rather than idle a class 8 truck to stay warm. Just an example, my parents live in New York State, 5 minute idle law, see a state trooper sitting watching traffic on a cold day, his car is running, he is staying comfortable, same goes for state highway workers, when they are sitting with the salt trucks on ramps waiting for weather, trucks are running keeping them warm. I do not understand what has happened in this country that somehow if you drive a truck you are less than human... I know I for one am tired of it, and have just about had enough. As for the current problem with the battery set-up on these new trucks, this is a make it or break it for me. If I cannot get proper rest, I cannot operate the truck per the FMCSA rules. I guess the safety department will be my next stop after I talk to the shop.
Mic Thanks this. -
what I don't get is that I see APU's on a couple of the new trucks from time to time...but they are extremely rare...I wonder who thinks the Batteries are a good idea..they know they will have to replace them eventually...and that costs...but so do apu's and their maint...but its got to be about the same when you do the math for the entire fleet...hmmm..

I'm sure roehl is banking on the battery powered apu
To be cheaper to purchase and maintain versus the diesel units.
The only causalitys that will occur here is lack of driver comfort.
Specifically the new cascadia and the white prostars, all roehl
Has to do is program these trucks so they can idle to recharge
The batterys and keep a idle percentage on the driver.
If they practice what they preach with safety and ethics and values
Then we have nothing to worry about, time will tell . -
yeah it will be next summer when time will tell...when they start having drivers croak due to heat stroke cause the batt packs are burned out in Texas and Georgia when its 100+ out...then the Saftey gurus will come around and say OOPs!!
its a shame that bad thing have to happen to get anything to change in any industry... -
A Drivers Advisory Group is really not and organized in the union sense. I think that's how you meant your comment. Its more a sounding board between management and drivers about beach's concerns. Many items like this battery pack could be discussed with management to address the concerns as a group instead of individual complaints through dispatch.

Wondering if paoldschool made it to marshfield and if maint was able to
Come up with some solutions on the freightliner cascadia hvac system.
If we dont hear from him in a day or so we might have to round up a search party.
Management might have him in a dark room with a spotlite on him forceing company
Koolaid down his throat ! -
Ok, I went from a 06 Columbia and just recently got a 12 pro-star (flatbed). I unlike some drivers have pulled out the owners manuals on this truck and started reading, instead of just getting in and driving the truck. There are so many more features on this new truck that make it more comfortable than my Columbia! The bunk heater is tied into the block warmer, so you DON"T have to idle the truck all the time to keep the motor from gelling and getting cold. The Auto start feature will only fire the truck up IF the bunk heater (no idle) is not engaged. I personally have found one thing on this truck that I wish it had, and that is the power inverter. I had a microwave in my Columbia and that is what I cooked with. I will not pay $300 for Roehl to put one in, when it is not that hard to instal. Now I just use one of the Road Pro heaters that you can pick up for $35, works just fine and Walmart also sells those pans that go in there, or you can use some foil to line that pan as well.
Flatbedders have said that there isn't enough room for all our gear that we have to carry in the new Pro Star's.....Ummmm....Bulsh*t...I have everything that I need in there and I have plenty enough room to hold extra if it was needed.
In all I would rather have a new Pro Star over the Columbia any day, and another bonus, the river seat swivels around so if you have a TV in the truck you can sit in the seat and watch!! LOVE IT
