Some company's will order trucks with factory installed "cheap" CB radios so that drivers won't butcher up the truck trying to install their own radio.

I found this post most interesting as I am still a rookie and would do nothing but agree with you on this one, its bloody common sense to warn people about things youve passed that they are heading towards, ive also been able to provide helpfull information to other drivers from time to time.
A CB radio is just like this forum except with only one catagory, ya theres some silly-ness but to ignore it and to think it unhelpfull because you "dont hear anything on it" is just plain ignorant -
My CB sits on a shelf in the bunk.

I've been driving for almost a year and I've never talked on it. I use my vhf all the time. Also it was pointed out some receivers talk to you on the cb. Well if that's the case ur work should supply you with one if its essential to your job. Its not a must ghave. Though

don't know how many times that i've called out to some one about whats happening up ahead and don't even get a response. do they have a radio? is it on? are they on the same channel ? do they speak english? after awhile you feel your wasting your time so why bother. some sort of a simple response would be appreciated.

so i plan to do cross border long haul. Are they more common still in the USA?
-
Basically what I'm asking is are they becoming obsolete or is it worth it to get a nice one for christmas or something?
-
-
yes they are more common in the states. personally i would wait to see what type of truck you get and see if one is supplied. i know i could not put my galaxy in a kenworth if it was wired into the headliner (to wide) cobras fit everything i believe.
