Pay attention when they cover trip planning and Mac 18! Mac 18 basically gives them a rundown on what hours you've driven the past 3 days and how many (estimated) you'll have when you complete your current run. This gives them the info they need in order to BEST utilize you and the time you have on your books to keep you running to the fullest extent. You have to send this Mac in at least once per day...but you can send it in more...and should if there is the slightest change in your HOS.
It can be a bit tricky to learn this Mac but you absolutely WANT TO in order to maximize your earnings!

Pay attention when they go through coupling and uncoupling with you. They have their own way of doing it and, yes, that is THE way they expect you to do it....every single time.

Pay attention when they show/tell you how to set up a 45 degree back. IT WILL HELP! I'm no old school but I have been driving a few years and no one ever showed me how to landmark and set up a 45 degree back. The guy doing our backing and road test showed me and I was able to back in so much more easily! I have learned a lot and have a lot more to learn yet. Here, they WILL teach you if you just keep in mind that you have one mouth and two ears...so listen at least twice as much as you talk....but definitely ask questions if you have them.

The road test is not hard. Just watch the back end of your trailer in turns, your mirrors on the straightaways, your buttonhook turns, don't crowd other vehicles on the road and be patient and wait for the space needed to perform your moves safely. If you miss a gear, don't panic....just keep trying for one until you get it. Don't shift once you start turning until you have completed your turn. Schneider trucks are 10 speeds so if you learned on a 9 speed...get ahold of the 10 speed pattern and practice it if you can. This will help.

Hope you guys find something useful in here!

    What she said!!!!

New inexperienced driver here. It seems I've asked more question of my road instructor this week than he has heard in 2 months!!

Stumped him a couple times. Just useless info stuff. nothing critical or earthshattering.

Like , since we drain the tractor air tanks when we park , why dont we do the trailers too?

Ive got 4 years driving, but the systems at SNI are killing me. Took me a few to get the Mac 18 down, but now, I'm getting confused with the equipment disp. sigh.

Mickey most of Schneider's trailer's don't have air tanks schneider doesn't run air ride except for the old emerson trailer's. ra0828 if you got a question ask it here and i'll try and answer it if i can it may be hard to answer since i don't have an mcp200 nearby but i'll try. And roadtoad69 (well i won't touch that LOL) you are correct 100% they want you to do it the Schneider way or go home. Good Luck and Merry Christmas!!!!

but their IS an air tank on the trailers. At there is on the one I'm training on. Its not air ride either. Isnt this tank where the trailer air is stored? If there arent Air tanks on trailers, then why is there a gauge for the trailer ?

not tanks. those are air bags. The air is in the brake drum as well, to stop the truck. When you press the brakes, if you notice, it will take a second for the brakes to "engage". It takes that for the air that is on the truck to go through the air lines. The air isn't stored on the trailer.

No, I'm quite sure it was a tank on this trailer. Tucked right in between the tandems. Instructor saw it too. No airbags on it either.

I'll check it again tomorrow during my pretrip just to be sure I saw what I thought I did.
