Leaving tonight at 11:30 right from prime in springfield to head toward Rockport IN for Orientation for lease at Malone. Bus won't arrive in Evansville IN until 0630 and then a 30-35 mile cab ride to rockport for a 0800 start. Looking forward to getting a paycheck again. Talk to alot of drivers at malone and they say their doing well, a little nervous though because thats what the drivers said about prime. Have'nt found that to be true, since at prime it's only costed me money! :biggrin_25513:

Was thinking about going to malone
Could u guys tell what expenses they
Take out of settlements each week. I get
The truck payment and fuel. I am looking
    For maintenance acct, securement equip,
Taxes ie. ifta, escrow acct, truck cargo bobtail
Insurance and anything I might be forgetting.
I have calculated my break-even at 1.39 per mile which
Includes 700 a week driver pay running 2400 miles
Per week. I was told u can expect approx 1.00 to 1.39 per mile
Anything over that was very very rare. This driver said most
Loads pay about 1.29 with surcharge. He also said u can't run
More than 1800 miles week b/c the agents won't give new hires
Any loads over 300 miles per day. From what this guy said I can expect around
300 to 400 a week take home. If so I'll keep
My 800 per week company job I would be nice
To have my own truck in three years. The driver I talked to
Seemed very unhappy which is why I'm here in search of more info.
Recruiters were not much more helpful than this driver
Was. They didn't seem to know anything especially
When I asked about fixed expenses

Thanks for any help or information

I sure wouldn't run flats for 1.29. You can make that pulling vans for just about any mega carrier...

By my calculations you can expect to pay about $2800 to $3000 per month in deductions as a L/O for the first 6 months. Once your bond and equipment is paid, your payments should be around $2400 to $2600 a month. Inspite of this, I've spoken with a couple Malone drivers who say they're bringing home $1500 week.

I don't know why you'd want those POS trucks. They are throw-away Freightliners that have been abused by trainees at CRST van for a few years until they get passed over to leasees. Malone is a good outfit but I never recommend leasing. Get your own truck and then lease on. PM me if you are serious, safe and prefer results over excuses.

If you call recruiting they should be able to send you a breakdown of deductions. It sounds to me as though the driver with whom you spoke doesn't know how to run a truck. CRST Malone assigns a dispatcher to every owner operator or lease operator. I would encourage you to not go with a lease purchase. You will do much better if you buy your own truck. A few months ago their owner operators were averaging $2/mile to the truck including the fsc. If you stay in their primary freight lanes you should do well with them. If you run wherever you want without regard to available freight on the other end, then you probably won't do well. Many people who buy or lease a truck seem to forget that this is a business. I met a lease operator a couple of years ago in Pittsburgh. He told me that he only cleared about $300/week after paying the lease on his truck, rental on the trailer and all the expenses involved with running a lease purchase truck. He was doing one through CRST Malone. I could not say if it was the way he ran his truck or the high cost of his expenses. One guy whom I spoke with at the main office of CRST Malone told me that one should net about $900/week after all expenses.

If you have any buisness sense and a strong work ethic, you can make decent money doing the lease. My average last year for all weeks was a little over $1400 to the house.

Runningman you posted that you grossed 236k for the year and $1400 a week seems low for that figure. Would you mind telling me what your deductions are? I must be missing something. Thanks!
