I have been reading the Trucker Report for about a month now and found it to be a good source of information. I had an interest in trucking for some time and now after being laid off with no luck in getting employed in my current field, I am taking a more serious look. I welcome any suggestions on training or companies to work for in this area of Florida. Personal info: My wife is a nurse and I am a former computer drafting Tech (CAD) and we do not have any children, and very involved in our church.

Don't want to run on thanks again

Welcome to TTR, What field of CAD work were you in. I spent about 18 years doing AutoCAD, Microstation CAD for civil engineering firms in Ohio, Then went to Mechanical 3d CAD work with Pro/E. I would get laid off as well when different parties would come into power and change the course of the economy and type of jobs. Got tired of that. As far as training companies in Fl. I am unsure who all is down there. Not trying to defer you from the industry but as a realistic point of view the first year or so you may not have a ton of time at the house. It is kind of "Paying your dues" so to say. You may get lucky and find a regional or local job, but a lot of the time they want people who have the seat time driving over the road. You can PM me f you want to know anything else, as I have kind of the same work experience.

I was using Autodesk Civil 3d 2010 and for GIS ArcMap 10. My Cad experience is a little limited, I spent most of my time doing GIS work and record keeping. The schools near me are National 30 minutes away and Roadmaster 1.5 hours away. I under stand the need to pay my dues and get experience. At this point I am planning on getting my CDL even if I don't get a full time job. Some of the other positions I am looking at a CDL is an asset, but secondary. I have a friend that drives for a company using their truck, but he is independent does heavy haling, he is checking into some options for me.
    Thanks again for the input
