I drive because I like driving. Since when I was a kid I used imagine that the record player is the steering wheel of the rigg and the sound head actuator is the gear shifter.- lol. I know.
However, when I leave the house, the only thing that I think about is how to make as much money as possible in the shortest amount of time and get back home.
If I would be able to find the cargo van contract that can keep me home and make $1100 net per week, I would do it. I'd buy a used sprinter and get at it. I was just trying to say that loads under $2 mi with your own trailer are hard to justify vs $1.65-$1.75 without your own trailer.
I love securing the load, sometimes tarping too. But, the math does not add up. So far, I was not able to find anyone who would prove me otherwise. Speaking of otherwise, where is Red?

I'm on my second load with Mercer and thinking I need to get another coordinator because of lack of commucation. He seems to have no regard to dead head vs. size of run. 200 mile deadhead for a 400 mile runs.

Load would have to pay pretty good for that, or deliver in an area with really good rates.

That's what I thought but it only paid, 1.75 mile.
Supervisor took me off it but didn't give me a different coordinator.
Now nothing else available but I think it as well to sit and not make money as apposed to work for free.
Hopefully something will come up. -
It takes a little while to get used to your coordinator and them to get used to you.. Are you letting them pick the loads for you or are they just calling and offering them too you?.. I Would have them offer the loads and you decide that way they can get used to what you like to haul and where you want too go and dont go. I had 4 Coordinators in my first year (not my choice) and that sucked. I am going on 8 months with the one I have now and she is pretty good. But even so I don't let her pick for me.volvodriver01 Thanks this.

I tried telling him to run the loads by me first, but I dont' think he is listening to me, so I got a supervisor involved which pulled that previous no pay load off me. But looks as if I'm still stuck with the same coordinator. He doesn't seem to want to talk with me now. Quick to get off the phone.
Maybe tomorrow I can find a load off the board. But everything in the area seems gone for Friday and Monday. I might be sitting down here in NC for a few days.
Thought about deadheading north towards the house. -
This time of year your best bet is too stay north.. In fact that is all I do really, this is the list of states I run and it really never changes - Wi, Ill, Ia, Mn, Mi, Mo, Ar, In, Oh, Tn, Ky.. I will run up into Nd and Sd but it has to pay enough for me to Dh back to a good area.

Have you called the agents in NC, don't know where exactly you are. If they know you are looking to go to a certain area they will keep that in mind when looking for loads.
I'll be back in Louisville in the morning, bringing back a trailer being turned in. Had to recover it, deliver two stops, then go back to where I started (380 miles later) and get it decked on mine. Now have to hope I can find something headed back where I started. I hadn't intended to wander far from home this close to Christmas. Really don't want to be stuck out the weekend before, have things I had scheduled to do this weekend. Having second thoughts about "can you do us a favor" ...volvodriver01 Thanks this. -
You want to talk about change of plans: had a 3/4 stopper, from NE to DE. On my way to it - 170+ mi. Order changed: 4 stopper, DE, PA, MA,VT. Now, did I mention to say that DE is closer to NJ than VT is? Load in VT from my city is about 420-450 mi away. Would hate to DH and get a load going to CA,WA. Lol.

I meant to stay closer to home being so close to christmas but wanted to let the coordinator make me some money.
I end up sitting all day at Fort Bragg waiting on coodinator to find something. Then by this afternoon, he was gone and two others were having to handle his calls. But one of the others did get me a reasonable oversize load for Monday and now I'll be heading back north, actually to the cinninatti area for Tuesday.
