Don't you use it to keep from going backwards as you go up those steep hills?
-
I use it all the time, for the following reasons:
1)Tug test, after EVERY TIME I stop, to make sure one of you #######es didn't pull my fifth wheel pin.
2)Sliding the trailer's tandem axles are much easier, especially with an older trailer.
3)When backing into an area with little luminescence, tugging slightly on the trailer brake will provide more light.
4)When an air leak is suspected, you can narrow it down to the tractor or trailer. You'll hear air in the dash.
5)To make sure I have trailer brakes when I hook up to a new trailer. -
I can't believe none of ya'll brought up one of the old school uses: grabbing a bit of trailer brake to see how slick the road was.

Well when I was leased on to a company I used them a lot the heck with wearing my brakes out pulling heavy loads But now I use them every time I release or set my brakes out of habit to pull against the 5th wheel. If you pull against it when you set the brakes it is highly unlikely that anyone will be able to pull you pin.

I use mine mainly to keep from rolling back when stopped at a stop light.

trolly brake? Always called it a Johnson bar (of course thats when we also had wig wags in the cab). It's real purpose was to help recover from a jackknife or as someone else said, to slide tandems.

Wow! Time machine huh? Wig wags ? Yeah, I remember....
