I to am trying to find the average rate (hourly local lite load haul) for my father who is just starting up his own trucking business ... From my understanding the rates seem to be anywhere from $75/hr and up. I know that with the company I currently work for we charge $75/hr no trailer and $100/hr with a trailer. That seems really low when you factor in your costs (insurance, vehicle registration, wage, maintenance etc) ... some companies are also charging as high as 20% fuel surcharge.

I know one trucker that parks here in our yard for long haul some of his work pays $1.90/km.

Ditto on the $0.40 per mile. Low would be $0.31. Suspiciously high for a new driver would be over $0.45.
