Wow, Magic you read my mind. Im feeling the exact same way, sitting in basically the exact same position. (Two weeks of school left). Had I found this sight a week earlyer, Im not sure if I would have gone thorugh with it or not, but I like you have wanted to drive those trucks for a long time. Never wanted to get rich, but at least be able to provide pretty well for my family, which from reading deep into the board, I think we'll both be able to do. Still, It is a bit scary to be sitting where were sitting.

I hear you bro'. Wow, I thought this thread was done and then BOOM! It blew up! I myself don't have any family to worry about, which is why I stated earlier that I'd LOVE to drive 3000-3500 miles. Now that I know that's pretty much wishful thinking, it does not AT ALL deter me from wanting to do this. I love trucking. When I'm driving in my 4wheeler, EVERY truck that goes by I examine, lust after and am jealous over. I know, I'm a freak, but so be it. I love trucking and although the diesel isn't in "my blood" yet, it's what I crave. Also, I realize that I'm only 21 yrs. old, but I am not stupid and I am NOT gullible/vulnerable! I graduated with a 3.7 cumulative GPA from high school, which I know has no impact on how this career will turn out, but I do believe that it will help me progress throughout my trucking career, as long as I'm obedient, trustworthy,dependable and have an excellent work ethic (which I've always had). I am very used to dealing with arrogant/demeaning customers, so that's no problem.
To the person going to Anderson for their first TRUCKING job. I realize you have dump experience, but I'm fairly sure they require at least one year of OTR experience, maybe even 2. So how are you pulling that off?? Regardless, I am green with envy my friend. That is THE company I want to work for! GOOD LUCK!!!

You know, the "special" card all supertruckers seem to have. The that lets them always be running ahead of schedule pulling a high dollar load in their fusion powered warp drive capable chromed out supertruck that never breaks down and allows them to sail past all coops and DOT checks without a problem. Apparently the card also makes them into a cross between a young Robert Redford and Chuck Norris so they have to fight off every piece of nubile nookie for 50 miles around while beating the crap out of all lesser truckers. I'm still trying to find out where to get one of these cards cause my average day seems to vary between sucks and sucks really badly. Sigh, I guess I'll have to suffer through being a normal professional driver with every day normal problems, think I'll write my congress critter and protest my obviously unfair situation.

Be afraid... Be very afraid
You will make 28-32,000 the first year, if you run hard. It's not so much about the cents per mile, but how many miles you are dispatched on, and how many you are able to run, that will make the difference in your pay.
Remember what you are giving up for that money tho, And it will feel like much less pay, and perhaps that is the perception you are picking up on. And remember for that 500-600 you will be out there for 7 days, and thats less than 100 per day, or around 9.00$ per hour. Sorry, but a good job in this industry is hard to find.
