Fuel MPG on 379exhd 2003 6nz engine

Can you help us out- what kind of trailer will you be pulling? How much weight? What kind of roads- hills or flat, heavy city traffic, country or city? And how are you geared- what rear end ratio are we talking about and what kind of transmission?

You'll likely find someone in a similar setup that can guide you.

 

The main question is what speed do you plan to run? What are your driving habits? What kind of shape is the truck in? How many miles are on it? Need alot more information, very detailed. There a lot of different factors, that will affect the mpg of a 379, but overall all, just for "very"general info about,5.5 to 6.0. Driving style,experience ,habits,equipment condition and EXPERIENCE will play a major role. I have talked to some that are getting 6.8 mpg with a 379, but these are VERY seasoned O/O.

 

Hmmm... 48 states with a big engine. I've driven a similar setup years ago and drove my equipment hard. My best guess is to be pretty conservative about fuel mileage (in other words don't expect good results), I would feel comfortable with 4.8 to 5.8 mpg's. That would depend on a lot of variables, idle time being the biggest factor. If you end up with one of those over gross nursery loads out of Oregon and it has to cross the country in a hurry to deliver to Boston, (lots of weight and moving fast)- shoot even lower.

Light loads, no idle time, slower speeds= better mpg's than expected.

 

i use to get 6.75 to 7.25 driving 68mph hauling reefer theres alot of factors.rpm when shifting ,down shifting plays a big factor in this also 05 pete c-15 cat ,18 speed
