Marine has 9 locations. Newark, Baltimore, Norfolk, Charleston, Savannah, Atlanta, Columbus, Cleveland and Chicago. The manager in Charleston is a good guy too.

 

im an o/o can hauler outta norfolk,va. is there money in it? as far as im concerned i do alright. im not setting the world on fire, but im not in a bread line either and im sure there is freight that pays better for the time that i put in. for the time being cans is my home. the biggest thing for me is im home every night and off every weekend. i dont really have a desire to spend alotta time out on the road at anyone time. right now i just run into carolina and no farther so i cant make it back home without being over hours. no drop and hook for me. everything is live load/unload but 98% of all it is no more than 1 1/2 at the most. once and awhile get a non palletized load stacked front to back, top to bottom, left to right that takes alotta time. however, i have an awsome dispatcher and she always makes sure we get our detention time. plus with the live load/unload with where im at and being we mostly only deal with one steam ship line, when it lines up i can frequently take a load down and then use the same container to bring something back. since we are paid on the round trip im getting paid for 2 rounds and running one.



another big thing with hauling cans is the company that u lease on with. my old man has been hauling cans for the last 15 years and been around the block. i will say there are alot more crooked ones vs good ones. we are blessed to be leased with a good one. most importantly its all about works the best for you.






as far as the ragged truck thing..........there is definatly no shortage of those around here. u can always tell when dot is working at one of the ports cus the ports are deserted ha. i wished they would work everyday....i get in an out of there in quick not to mention it would get all the trash(and i mean TRASH) off the road that makes us look bad.

 

I did the Chicago railyards a couple years for jb as a co. driver.I think the o/o pay varies a bit, here to S.C. I know a o/o that goes from Green Bay to Chicago and back to G.B., mon.-fri. 2,000-2,300 after fuel. You could grab another in GB. and get 100 plus mi. in, but he,s about 60 and wants to sleep in his own bed everynight. It,s 199 0r 203 paid mi. at jb as a co. driver, he,s not leased on with jb. Just giving you an idea what cans pay.

im doing well with marine so far. been droping and hooking in the baltimore yard
and delivering around ohio. reloading in the buckeye then back to baltimore.
