Exaust valves are loose with zero oil pressure)))) With VEB exaust valves must be ajusted to zero clearance. But look at ECM sticker, can you see VEB (Volvo engine brake?), it is kinda Jake Brake. If no VEB - 0.4-0.5 mm, if engine with VEB - no ajustment.
run Cyl. compression test with VCADs pro/VTT. If any cylinder compression is not lower 90% - keep driving truck. Run test twice becouse starter motor may be old and turn engine not smooth enought for correct test.

The last time i was under the valve cover putting an injector in... i noticed the marks around the cam gear... if i remember correctly, they are just behind the gear. should be numbered 1-6
-
yes, cylinder marking) V-marks are for VEB. If you have VEB = do not ajust it becoue you need plates. No reason.
-
what kind of plates pablo.I just adjusted my valves .both intake and exhaust where adjusted.volvo d-12 with engine brake.I did not see any plates been used to adjust exhaust.I did notice timing marks on cam .number 1-6 + V1-v6 .the procedure was turning the engine to the coresponding number and adjusting intake and injector.and the exhaust was v# on what was on the right.
