If your financial situation can handle the down time as it takes 3 to 5 weeks depending on what school you attend, you will be better to get it over with and get established. What State do you live in?

Schnieder has training is that what your thinking?

I hear their a pretty good company from all the posts on this site.

I drove a straight truck (925) and a small single axle in the Marine Corps and a dump for a few years in northern michigan. But, I never got my CDL. I've been searching the net and reading every forum I can. But, haven't gotten any clearity just scatter brained.
I am looking for a good sponsored program, cause money is an issue and looking for a way to assist my family (financially) while in school.
I live 45 minutes NW of Chicago, IL. in a little town called mundelein.
Could someone recommend a way or some company's to seek?

I've read this entire thread and searched other areas of the site and found no reference to Midwest Coast school or company. Can Anybody enlighten me on this school?

The closest CC to my area charges $4800 for 6 Weeks M - Th training.
My Wife and I want to train and Team Drive.

Thanks, Roadkill, for the response and the reference. I Have looked at their website and am familiar with their boasts. I was hoping to find someone who had been there or had heard of success or horrors about their training and/or company.

I do appreciate the come back tho, and the things I have seen and read on this site have been most informative and helpfull.

I agree with your assessment of Schneider national, they were nothing but fair with me, the only problem I had with them was getting home to do my drills for the reserves. But other than the computer dispatch we had in 2004, it was okay i guess. I spent just over a year with them, saw some nice countryside, went offroute A LOT<GRIN>, and still got my bonuses, I don't know if you can still do all that these days. My only real problem was my str, she was a real winner, who just knew she knew what I was going through, and thought the best thing for me was to drop my load in north Bregen NJ, and do relays out of Manhattan in my sleeper truck for about 2 weeks, so after she was fired, things got a lot better. News flash, Freightshaker c120's don't do real well in the big city, or maybe it was just me<GRIN>.Otherwise a good experience overall.

Wow, I am surprised at the length of all these schools. I am in a private school here in the Northeast, it is 20 weeks, they have placement assistantice, and also if once you graduate, and don't get your license they still allow you to come back and use the equipment. Also the placement also is available to you even after a few years. The cost is about $7500, but for most you can get governmetn school loans, or even Pel grants if you qualify. They also allow for GI bill. The way the work the school is first 10 weeks is class, the second 10 weeks is all road work. Though if you are good enough you can finish in a minimum of 16 weeks. I think this is probably due to the Dept. of Ed requirements hours so they can get the govt loans.

I work for Schneider. I have ONLY heard of 12 or 18 months. I will make a call, but I have to say that I HIGHLY DOUBT there's a 36 month contract.
