CARHARTT is good for working outside in the cold
get the bibs and a jacket, much better than the 1 piece coverallsGiggles the Original Thanks this. -
The one thing I learned quick when I moved up north is how to use a snow blower. Rotate the chute around everytime you turn. It doesn't blow good into the wind.
I looked like the abominal snowman my first time. It didn't take me long to figure it out.

the op has a pretty good list,
ill also mention besides carrying a extra pair of gloves always keep some extra socks should you ever get some snow down your boot your going to want to change your socks asap.
i also dont normaly do the coveralls unless im going to be outside for hours. ill do jeans with thermals insulated socks/boots under shirt + t-shirt + sweat shirt + insulated jacket eather the sweatshirt or the jacket should have a hood. a ski mask would be nessisary for longer exposure.
i like to dress this way as opposed to the coveralls becouse its easyer to shed and put on layers as nessisary. long term exposure more than a hour or 2 coveralls are nessisary
also work steady and slow in extreem cold, do not sweat. for two reasons one you dont want your inside layers of clothing to get wet. for another it is acualy posible to overheat your core body temp while yet you still feel cold becouse your extremitys are cold. if you have been exurting yourself and start to feel faint and dizzy you need to get in a warm place out of the elemets and shed as much of your clothing as posibleHammer166 and Giggles the Original Thank this. -
You mean like this:

hoodies are illegal to wear with a hardhat at the coal mine im at...instead they give us the hardat liners that do the same job with better visibility
legal elsewhere? -
I am Canadian and have spent my whole life dealing with cold. I lived in the arctic for two years and northwestern Ontario for 10 years. Great suggestions and advice here.
My number one thing is this.....cold is not so much your enemy as WET is. Wet when cold will kill you fast. If going to be isolated in the cold for any length of time, I always have some clothing made of wool. Wool will insulate when wet and to dry it is very easy in sub-zero. Let it freeze solid and beat the heck out of it. The ice crystals will break away and leave a dry garment behind.
Eat high calorie foods. This is not the time for bean sprouts and raddichio!!! Keep the best heater you have stoked. Arctic adventurers melt lard and drink it when in that environment. I am not saying do that, but you get my point.
Always keep your head covered as that is where most heat loss occurs.
Just my two cents worth for the thread.
Good idea starting this one.

I say the best way to stay warm is to stay south....LOL I'd say stay dry and follow the advice of other more qualified Member's.

Carhartt? Seriously, I can't recommend that crap. I bought a different Brand coat, and will never recommend carhartt up here. Nothing lets the wind though you better than a carhartt. Last pair of bib overalls I bought was able to compare how heavy they were needless to say carhart also lost out there. I had carhartt coveralls, after haveing another brand. That was the coldest winter I've ever worked in. Thankfully someone stole them from me.
