I have a master degree in Asia Pacific Studies for the UK and ran an English department at a college in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam for 11 years before returning to trucking-missed the freedom and open road.

Yes-exactly the same here! I was a college lecturer for 11 years on Vietnam, and what you come away with being a teacher is patience for sure.

I was a tool distributor, Mac Tools. That job would teach you patience, you would learn every excuse that people use for not paying and you would slowly bleed to death.

Worked farms my whole life till i graduated high school started logging for a year joined army at 19 in 1997 spent 9 years in ( last 2 years in Afghanistan) moved to Wyoming for the oil fields (30 year boomlasted 6 months) found a job as an equipment operator for a town did that for a year then went pipelining for the union got a job at a power plant and going to straight equipment transport next monthbut had CDL for years as backup

I was a union plasterer in the Chicagoland area. Did everything from drywall patching to restoring historic plaster buildings. Did mostly my own work when the construction industry went south. Got tired of too much competition for too little work and it was time for a change.

washed dishes through high school, welded for about six months, then joined the military and burnt seven years, got out bought a truck and got my authority, ran flatbed for six months until my liability insurance carrier closed their doors, so i shut down my operation and became a company driver. One more year until i get another truck and do it all over again.

first job was delivering news papers i ran that into the ground owed the news paper company like 200 bucks....it was a lot of money back in the 70's.. when i was toss out of school in the 10 grade for making a fake hand gun in wood working class . i got a job as an electrician helper did that for like 12 years move to Florida and found out quick i need a job with A/C. seen an ad in the paper free training BECOME A TRUCK DRIVER. So i sign up with Poole truck lines evergreen,AL 4,week class room and local driving and 3,weeks with a trainer. and it was free i could quit at anytime and owned noting zero . (this was 1991) been running the roads ever sense then.. will I've quit a few times but after a few months i'm ready to hit the highway again. last time i quit for 2 years and had a hell of a time getting a job had to find a bandit out of Chicago to work for or be retrained by convent or crst i didn't want to go their...
