Hey Vegas, thanks to you too for the info and leg work. Been following on Paul's thread. Test out Monday morning, then my search begins in earnest. Looking at the same places you are. I want to be down there by mid Jan.

I saw the ad from Plains....calling Monday to see if the numbers are legit.

I take it you have never been to south Tx. before, vegaspainter. lol
Parts of it is what it is. Corpus might be more to your liking as far as living. I hear the lease roads are pretty muddy and dozers are dragging trucks and trailers. Good luck down there! -
Passed the test! Got the CDL today and finished the school. Wife's having surgery tomorrow, so if all goes well, I plan on coming down around 15 Jan. I'll start making calls later this week.

I called Nabors South Texas region and lady on the phone told me 1 year exp is required.

Ok heres the update for today. After spending the night in a really crappy motel (sun suites corpus christie) and getting little sleep i went to Thomas Petroleum .I filled out an app and talked to Joe vp of operations nice guy . He said i would be hired as frac driver, you know the guys who refuel after each stage of the fracing job ,basically sitting around a lot lol.He also said i would do that and deliver fuel to sites. He said the main hr guy was in houston today but would be back tomorrow and he would call me,he made it sound like a done deal but he didnt have the final say.The pay is $17 an hour with plenty of overtime sounds pretty cool right?I talked to a couple of guys after he left and they said the job was the bomb and really easy the only thing that troubled me was they said most of the trucks were automatics! Not sure how that would affect my future job prospects ya know?I was hoping to develop my shifting skills....anyway hoping to hear from the big guy tomorrow if not ill keep checking!
After that i went out to a little town bout 30 miles from corpus called Alice. Coil Tubing Services was advertising for equipment operaters with cdl a with x.I filled out an app and talked to an employee a young guy who worked in the shop mostly . He said he was earning about $ 1000 a week with about 40 -50 hours i couldnt talk to any drivers unfortunately and the big boss was outta town for the dayso i didnt get interviewed.
I went down the street to schlumberger and was informed that SOS Staffing in corpus christie does all their screening. After i went to sos(226 enterprize pkwy #120) they said they were setting up interviews for the middle of january and starting pay was $15 an hour.I dont want to wait that long so i passed but one of you guys might want to jump on that if you want to get in with an enormous company.
I went to 2 other petro companies in corpus( mission and startex) but they need 2 years experience.
I headed north cause i wanted to see Goldspur Trucking to end the day.I filled out an app and spoke to really cool lady named betsy patterson . She said she usually did test drives on friday so i gotta wait for that i guess .Starting wage is 19.00 p/h with a $1.50 differential for night shift, $30.00 Stipend; $12.50 sub for pre/post trip inspections. She also said that they have 2006-2010 peterbilts with automatic transmissions? They haul crude oil which is good but once again auto's? Whatever i guess they both sound like good jobs so well see who calls first .
I went through a little burg called kenedy on the way to seguin one hell of a lot of activity there and a lot of signs for vac truck drivers. Unsure where youd live in that small place but i did see a lot of 5th wheel trailers parked in lots.If you have your own you might check it out
Im spending the night in New Braufels tonight not sure what im doing tomorrow check with me later . If anyone has any info on autotransmissions id like to hear it is that standard in petro hauling? -
Put it this way, in the very near future all trucks will run automatics. Years ago, everyone said they wanted the 2 stick jobs. Guess what, today the same guys love 13 and 18 speeds all on 1 sticvk.

No problem man I was (am) a big fan of paul as well his thread was what got me started.

Really that ll simplify things considerably i just feel kinda weird about it cause i spend a lotta money to learn how to shift mostly(sigh)
