Except you can't get a Peterbilt or Kw with a Cat or Detroit and the cummins have plenty of their own problems

BTW, SMART by Delphi is used on some Chenese engines. I saw ROAZ bus yesterday whith Chenese engine with SMART. Yep, bus was designed for Deutz, MB, Cat ore Cummins, but makers look for cheapper engines and seems to me made in China engines are not bad

the steyr based engine is still the main powerplant in chines trucks
it was modernized by AVL Powertrain Engineering for euro3(rear geartrain,4valves per ciliner, bosch CR injection)and its called now, weichai landking wp12n(tipical asian name, lacking words like superturbointercooler though:biggrin_2559:)

I can't comment on the Peterbilt 587 since these trucks are the Kenworth T660. I own 5 of the T2000 KW's and had some of the same complaints mentioned regarding the Pete 587. That's why I stayed away from the new KW T700. My KW T600's were a very good chassis and the T660 is relatively the same barring some interior changes and a hood redesign. KW has also vastly improved the turning radius of the T660 versus the T600.
4 of the drivers that are in the new T660's came out of 475hp CAT C-15 powered units. They all report equal or better pulling power compared to their old units. 1 came out of a 430/500 Detroit powered unit and he also reports better performance. The MX engine in the T660 is a 455hp/1650 ft lbs of torque with a 13 speed and 3.36 rear end ratio. The tires are low pro 22.5 and the trucks are set to run 68 mph at 1430 rpms. I am tracking fuel mileage closely but until I compile several miles with different scenario's regarding payloads and routes I won't have the real story.

I've had my first mechanical problem with a Paccar MX 455. One of my units broke the number one injector line at the pump in Iowa City, IA. Cedar Rapids Kenworth sent a wrecker and towed the unit to their shop and had the line in stock fortunately. The service manager at my dealer in Bowling Green, Ky contacted Paccar and found that this has occurred before and all my units will have upgraded lines installed in January. Something about the method of bending the number one line has caused some lines to break.
My units are far running between 6.5 and 6.8 mpg based on the computer downloads. Idle times on under 10% since I have Espar heaters in the sleepers. This could be lower but the units have several hours of idle time when I recieved them from the dealer. My drivers are very good and many of them have been with me for 10 years or more and understand the importance of cost per mile. Oil consumption has been minimal. Several are yet to add any with 7500 miles on the engine. Zero power complaints to date.

Well, this is my first post.

I to have a MX 485. Powering a 2012 389 tri-drive(truck in avatar). 18.5ft East gravel box on the truck and it pulls a 27ft quad axle wagon. GVW is 61,300kg's(135,000lbs). I currently have racked up 21,000km's(13,000miles). In the first 10,000km's I couldn't get better then 4.5mpg. After awhile my average jumped to 4.7mpg. I've broke 5mpg a few times. One time 5.15mpg and another being 5.5mpg. But I think that 5.5 happened because my PDI tuned C-15 was chasing me all day lol.

On similar terrain and hauls, with identical rigging, a 07' 379 Legacy tri-drive with a ISX 565 the milage is almost the same everyday.

Now, from 20,000km's to 21,000km's it hasn't done anything but bobtail from my home to the Pete dealership. I to am having issues now. Nothing directly motor related tho. But my SCR system has done nothing but throw codes. First time the line was plugged. Second time the sending unit. Third time I stopped asking. My truck hasn't made a full day of work since the end of November. It goes back to Pete on Monday for the latest codes.

Sorry to hear that kind...Ask your friendly Pete dealer can they transplant a Cummins in place of that Cheap Chinese MX engine. Whatever problem you may/may not have with a Cummins can be fixed by thousands of workshops & engine specialists in every corner of the US The Daf MX engine can only be fixed by a few...and even then, not very well by the looks of it...

Really MX SMART fuel system by Delfi is the same like Volvo Injector ore DEEC-V ingector. One solenoid kicks the fuel pressure in UPEC pump, other opens the nozzle. But SMART system is like to separate pump injector unit ro pump and injector. All this stuff is made by Delfi. They use the same parts for SMART and EUP (nozzles, valves, solenoids).

Really we have more a half issues related not with fuel system, but with SCR, and MX is designed to work with SCR only. No Euro-3 version, like Cummins made.

The real problem of DAF MX is that Paccar workshops can fix it now. In EU it is not the problem, but for example in Ukraine, there are less the dozen of workhops who fix MX and hundreds of Cummins technicians.

Cummins built service network all over the world, I'd say ISX the most popular Class 8 truck engine in Russia (N14 is beloved more). But smaller ISM, and CRD engines from ISF to ISL are popular too here.
