i would have to say that the oil feild has the best pay in the industry but its not for everyone. it is posible for a 1st year driver to make 100k a year in the oil patch. unfortunatly i can see already that the patch will go to crap in the near future as the supply of trucks catches up with the demand. companys start bidding work cheaper and cheaper hireing #### drivers to pay them less than standard wages. i have heard of insurance companys starting to crack down on who they will and willnot insure becouse of the amount of accidents there have been with the number of inexperanced drivers in the oil feild. some companys that before would hire anyone with a pluse are now requiring 1 year of tanker experiance. at the moment there are still lots of opportunitys for new drivers. i do like to see this trend as it is scary sharing the roads with some of these drivers. i just hope i can get a good solid 5 years in before goverment and underbiding companys and #### drivers ruin the oilfeild for everyone

I have done some research and I am going to try for the extreme hazmat after i get the required(2 years ) experience. Explosives, radioactives, munitions, toxics, ect.
Govt. security clearance required. I'm told about $100k a year average from a guy in our town who used to haul that class before he retired. Clean record, no accidents, points, tickets, ect to be hired, dangerous as all get out, but I like the idea of hauling materials that would give others the willys.

If it's so dangerous why do we never hear of incidents ? No load is dangerous if properly handled .

Zogg ... I have worked in public relations for 15 years. What you are saying is absolutely true. I appreciate your advice and have already planned to spend time getting to know the folks in the office while I am in training.

Well I'm one of those guys that has had a lot of jobs, (too many for them, Big Companies) I have hauled everything except livestock and construction equipment. I have learned that in my early days it was fun and less restrictions from the company and government. This is a love/hate relationship with the company, but I love the job and trucks and we all do as truckers. Now does anybody know a good refer-company that has big trucks. In closing; you will never make real money as a company driver, the ONLY way to go is to buy your own truck and become an Owner-Operator.

WRONG !!!!!!!!!!!!! The only benefit to being an owner/op is the freedom to say NO and YES to load's that you want that pay well and your hometime. I raised 5 boys and was there for every sport and special event they had. Money wasn't everything even though I made my decision's wisely, But my family alway's came first before. I was lucky and wised. So think before you act. BTW, don't forget all the expenses we go through as an owner.
