Help, I Don't think I Understand Prime Training Pay

    I'm not sure if I'm understanding this correctly I was on the Prime site checking it out when I saw this.


    From what I understand after reading this ,when your running 2nd seat with a trainer to get your 40,000mi you need to become a A seat driver you are quaranteed a minimum of $600 a week or .12cpm(whichever is greater)

    Even though $600 seems better than most companys training pay I don't understand the offering of 12cpm,Isn't it impossible to make more than the $600 a week by miles?

    (Impossible Scenerio)
    Even at 65mph at 10 hrs a day you would have 650 miles a day times 7 days a week = 4550 miles that week which would be impossible right ?

    4550 x .12cpm = $546 I just don't see how you could make more than the $600 or I'm I figuring and doing this all wrong ?

    You are forgetting that your trainer drives. It is completely possible for the truck to do over 5000 miles in a week. In the training situation, after the first few days, the truck only really stops for fueling, at the shipper or at the receiver, or when waiting on a load. There are a few cases where both drivers need a reset, and then the truck stops for 24 hours.

    Example: On particular week, JCW & trainer drove 5800 miles. His gross pay was $696.

    At 12 cpm, you are (hopefully) getting paid for every mile you drive and every mile your trainer drives.

    Don't forget to figure in the miles for the trainer. They also count towards the .12cpm. So if he/she drove for 4550 then your calculation would be 9100 x .12cpm = $1092. Of course the FM is going to want to talk to you all about your mpg average LOL

    Thanks that makes sense now, I didn't realize that the 12cpm was for the total miles of both drivers. I just figured the trainers miles wouldn't count only the miles the trainee drove.

    That isn't to bad when compared to some other companys when your starting out. Thanks again

    The major fallacy is you will NOT be traveling 65mph for 10 hours/day. Sorry, won't happen. Company trucks are limited at 62, L/O at 65. If you come close, someone WILL be talking to you about your fuel mileage.

    When you run as a team...it's total miles of the truck...split for each drivers pay level.

    Ya ,I get yah , Thats why I was using that as being pretty much impossible for a solo driver to do. Now that I realize it is total miles for both drivers I can see now how someone might make more than the $600 a week. Thanks

    So that's .24 cpm even for training that's pretty sorry.

    I'm just guessing....but it seems you don't like having to share the road with rookies.....didn't you have to put your first mile in at some point? Probably didn't get paid as much then as you do now....maybe?
