I have been out of work for about a month with back problems. I have 2 herniated discs and arthritis in the vertebrae. Will find out next week if I have to have surgery. Will anyone hire me after they find out about this? At this point I'm barely able to walk and don't know if I will physically be able to drive again. What are my options?

You'll have to get corrective surgery to stand a chance. I'd be leary of the surgery too. It's like a coin toss whether they fix you or not. I know they ruined my mother and a friend removing discs and fusing the bones together. But then I've heard success stories too.

If you don't get the surgery, you have to deal with pain management. You can't drive if they got you on prescription narcotics. If that's the case, I would go ahead and file for Social Security. You can always get off disability later if things improve. But I would get the ball rolling if things don't look favorable. Good luck and I hope you get better!

Thanks Condo. Yeah I'm not sure about the surgery. I've had 2 epidural injections that didn't work. The pain meds do pretty good but like you said you can't drive while your taking them. I guess I will look into the disability.
