I am looking for a trucking company that will train and hire drivers from West Virginia. I looked at a few different companies and Swift was my first choice but they said no students from WV. I think I am left to choose between CRST and CR England.

I have heard bad stories about both, my dad even worked for CRST a while when I was younger. He did not enjoy his time with them much. I figure worst case scenario if I hate it I can quit have a little training, a CDL, and owe them a few thousand dollars.

I was wondering if any one else is from WV and if you know of any other companies I can look in to that will “finance” my training for me? I really need a job. :msad:

I've read posts from drivers that took company training , quit before meeting their obligation , then couldn't get another job because the training company wouldn't certify their training and gave them a negative DAC . Don't even go there .
I went through WV last week and saw a lot of trucks from Key Energy fueling up at Jane Lew . Here's part of their current online ad .
    Qualifications

    Class A CDL Drivers License
Tanker endorsement indicated on license (N)
    Valid DOT Medical Card
Willing to work up to 70 hours per week
Ability to function "on-call" for emergency situations
Live within 1 hour of the operation
Pass a drug test, background check, road test, driving record review, and physical assessment
Prefer experienced drivers but will consider all levels

They are hiring all kinds of help . You might hire on then train to drive or get them to agree to reimburse for school .

I would look a little harder than England..(Don't get blinded by their red trucks, just because they have a cool logo). Do a search here and see all the complaints and scams they have done.. In the past they have been fined for logbook violations.. who knows what else

Have you considered anyone else but those two> CRST is a real bad one to work for.. they put students together & pay them next to nothing but run them to death (like a experianced team, without the $$)..

My suggestion....work like a dog at anything...save up some $$, and get a cdl...local community collage maybe...
Then look...cr england has a reputation for basicly making folks take a lease deal....the vast majority of folks fail, destroying your credit, and future...

I would have to say go through a State funding program like WIA. That way, you completely avoid being on the hook to a Company to pay back their "investment in you".
I just finished my schooling up here at Rumsey in Hedgesville, and paid nothing out of pocket.
From what I've been able to tell, all the big companies will bill you back for their school.
Check into McElroy, Boyd, Schneider, Roehl, TMC, Werner, and Covenant. I'm only suggesting them because they have all acknowledged me as a WV Student/Grad and are willing to take me on. As for an endorsement of one over another, well, read through here and let your head explode because pickin a company seems to be the actually hardest part of truckin!
    Good Luck!

Schneider hires in West Virginia for OTR and Regional (last I checked a few months ago - I live in Kentucky now, so different options for me). Do you live in the northern or southern part of the state?

thats good advice many states have work or retraining programs that will pay for your school. That being said why would you wanna go otr in wv? the oil and gas industry is really booming there and in pennsylvania.i have a friend who lives up near grafton and drives for a gas company and makes $19 an hr! He said he works about 12-16 hrs a day! Seriously talk to your local unemployment office they can usually help you or point you in the right direction. Maybe you have a relative who can loan you the money?

Schneider, Central, Stevens, Werner all hire in WV.
You have plenty of other options too.
If after reading the threads on England you still decide to go with them...well...good luck.
