Fire him. There are better drivers than that out there and it's the right market for someone with a job to offer. Don't put up with this or you'll keep on getting it. If you give him 2wks I would bet your truck is going to be a little (or a lot) less nice at the end of those when he's on his way.

Only you can answer that question. He is unreliable, but for the most part runs hard when working. I would deduct the 150 from his pay. Next time before a long weekend make sure he is done before paychecks are handed out.

Ive had drivers that ran hard because they were dead broke, once they got their paycheck would disappear for a couple days maybe a week then after they sobered up would call wanting work. -
If it was a reason, it seems he would have called the boss and warned him so he could get another driver on the load...

When he decides to reappear listen to the story, way it out, ask him if this will be a one time event or a continual problem for him and you. Explain that your business cannot afford this risk in the future. Then ask him how he would handle this situation if it was his business on the line. Judge his answer for sincerity and content. If he seems to not really care, then let him go on the spot.
Is this guy young? -
Another thing to think about is that how you handle this is going to affect how your other drivers behave. If you let this guy slide, they're going to think they can pull this type of stunt and get away with it too.
I've been an employer and an employee. If I pulled that type of stunt I'd expect to be fired. As an employer, I expected my employees to show me respect by doing their job and not screwing around on my time or mistreating my equipment. In return, they got good pay, decent benefits, and my respect. -
ARE YOU PEOPLE SERIOUS??????
The guy has freight on the truck
He KNOWS that it has to be delivered
He doesn't show up to deliver it
He doesn't answer the phone when the boss calls
and you think there is ANY excuse that would be acceptable?
OK....There is one, If the driver is dead he gets a pass.
If he's not dead...FIRE HIS ###!7122894003481, SmoothShifter, ricrey99 and 11 others Thank this. -
No the guy is 49 years old, seems like a hard worker and has been for the past weeks, I just want to know did something happen to him or did he hit the bars after the Checks and the bonus. That's all. I'm just tired of having my trucks sit on the lot that's all but my business is more important then one truck moving.

I would be sure to check on his welfare first. What's to say he was not in a serious accident last night??? Only way I would not fire him is if he COULD NOT PHYSICALLY get to a phone. Other than that, fire his ###, take the $150 out of his check and start looking for another driver....DONE!
moblue, fortycalglock, josh.c and 2 others Thank this. -
