I haven't worked for Roehl (sp?) but I can tell you that I liked the trainer Marten sent me out with. They tend to fly you places rather than sending you on a bus. And they give you up to 8 weeks of training with $300/wk for the first few weeks, then $500/wk for the rest of it. That's the only bit of info I can contribute. Good luck with it.

I can't say anything for Roehl, but I have been with Marten for 10 months now and I continue to be impressed with them. My miles are good, every staff person I have come into contact with has been friendly and helpful, I think the pay is great (there has been some rumor of going to practical pay miles, but I can't get anyone to verify it), and there are a lot of opportunities to take advantage of that I didn't even know until orientation. The tuition reimbursement for online courses was one of those. $500 quarterly productivity bonus is a piece of cake to get, as well as the $200 quarterly safety bonus. You get $1000 for every referral you get. You wouldn't believe the drivers that COME TO ME asking about Marten. I don't even have to try to sell them on the company. That makes me feel good about the company I'm with. When I decided to come over here, I couldn't find anyone that would say anything bad about the company, and so far I have been more than happy with my decision.

Second try at posting this:
One downside to Marten, for (older) women is having to lift weights: 25 lb. five times, then 50 lb. five times, then 75 lbs. five times. I had to do this again today, and both times I've wound up very sore!
Do other companies do this kind of thing?
If I lose my job this time I'll never be able to come back to Marten 'cause I'd never be stupid enough to try this again! -

Thanks Mikroos5, yes, I did pass. If you can imagine the insanity of coming off being told I may need back surgery and then having to do such a thing.
But they wouldn't let me off it. They only started it a few years ago so most of the drivers never had to do it. Arghh!
The woman administering the test was really, really nice and gave me lots of advice and even a demonstration of the best way to do 75 lb. I'm not even as sore as I was in March.
I am annoyed, though, as always, about bureaucracies and absolute rules. There ought to be some flexibility or common sense or something.
But yeah, I'm still here. Thanks for asking. -
Called them today and they told me because I was on workers comp for the last 2 years they wouldn't rehire me until I have 1 Year OTR.
I guess 13 years doesn't mean what it used to,It's what have you done lately. -
Mikroos5,
I'm sorry to hear that. In fact, that's just plain awful! But don't forget the having to lift 75 lbs which was really bad.
For their size they seem to have a pretty rigid bureaucracy going.
I made it through and they're letting me go out with a trainer again for a week or two, which I'm looking forward to.
Let us know what you decide to do. -
Well going with Martin
