It would be smart to check the legality of that . Here's an example of one state law .

I'm sure he does have personal problems, But a phone call to your employer is too much to ask?
I used to have 3 trucks....I sold two because no matter what you pay these clowns and no matter what you try to do to help them they just flake out eventually and dissappear or get drunk and get busted or some other equally stupid thing.

I would be a very good trainer but not for some bottom feeder that'll hire anything with a heartbeat and try to turn it into a truck driver.
Of course all of the "touchy feely" sissies these days would snivel because I would actually expect them to learn and not just tell them they were doing fine when in fact they "sucked" at this type of work.

    Why not?

The guy's been there 3 weeks! He did him a favor by giving him the bonus at that point in his employment.

    EXACTLY!

The so called "driver" probably decided that he had more important things to do than his job and that his boss would just have to bend over and take it because they usually do for these flakes.

Look around you at the truck stops...It very hard to find a decent driver these days that has ANY sense of "personal responsibility" and who doesn't have a "sense of entitlement" or that even takes any pride in what he/she/it does.
You hear them grinding gears as they try to shift into gear so badly that the whole truck shakes or going 25 or 30 MPH in the parking lot with no regard for anyone but themselves.
You see them walking around the truckstops stinking and filthy and rude, Tossing their trash and piss bottles everywhere and complaining because they are "Not treated with the respect they deserve" when in fact they are usually treated with far more respect than they "deserve".

One of the WORST things about the trucking industry is truck drivers!

    Not truckers....Truck drivers!

There is a distinct difference between "truckers" and "truck drivers" Most "truckers" can see the difference but the "truck drivers" haven't got a clue!

Dont you have his Home address?

When i was manageing a Resteraunt, I had a employee come to work hurt. So i sent him home early so he could go to the Hospital to get it checked out.....Next day he didnt show up for work.

Policy was you dont show up to work on fri or sat your fired (as we needed EVERY employee there to operate). So the Owner said F### him, about an hour before the dinner rush i ran up to his house to see what was going on. His car was in the driveway, i saw his "Landlord" in the garage smokeing weed, so i knocked on the door to ask if josh was home....

He says ya he's in his room and told me where it was. (He was renting a room in the basement of this guys house.) So i go knock on his bedroom door (which is locked) no answer.....I try calling his cell again, i can here it ring but no answer....WTF

So i go ask the land lord to open the door......He was unconsious on his bed He had taken too many of the pills the doctor gave him. Had I not gone over there and just said F### him, he may not have lived.

Just saying, before you jump to fireing this guy, make sure he's ok.

here's my take, i was a superviser in construction a long time. first, when he decides to grace you with his presence, ask three ultamate dumb question's, 1) are you ok?or were you in the hospital? 2) is the family ok, any personal emergencys 3) why ,didnt you deliver your load?........If none of the above, are involved......fire his sorry axx ! end of story...if you dont , you will leave the door wide open for the other drivers to take advantage of you. mind you, it's a compleatly different story, if you an him talked about time off for a perticular event or time...an you forgot....

When I had drivers,I had 2 that never came and picked up their check or their belongings. One had his wife call to see if she could get his stuff but I finally threw it away after a couple years.Hope I never get the bright idea to put a driver in a truck again.

His grandmother died, for the third time. When I was in the office for a local trucking company you wouldn't believe some of the BS excuses we would get and you just get to a point when your dealing with steering wheel holders that everything they say is probably a lie. I had a guy walk in and apply for a driving job, filled an app out and needed three extra job sheets to right down all the jobs he had. He had over 30 jobs in the last ten years and this was an experienced driver with over twenty years experience. He was clean cut, dressed nicely and didn't talk stupid or cuss in the interview. But I turned him down because of his work history and he kept on talking and asking me for a job telling me he was looking for a home and tired of working for companies that wouldn't pay, didn't have the freight, piece of crap trucks, etc......... and said he would be the best driver I ever had. Well I gave in and put him to work and he worked about three weeks or so and never had a problem with him during that time. He told dispatch that he was getting married this coming weekend and needed to be home, he was marring a waitress in Waco and would return on Monday to deliver his load. Well guess what he never returned we called his phone nothing and all his stuff was still in the truck. On Wednesday his new wife answered his phone and told me he went to work on Monday for a local rock hauler in Waco.
