On the 12th i got in four new trucks. I told the driver that leaves on monday that he would have to do a tuesday to saturday instead of his monday to friday run. Couldn't get it lettered and licensed in time. Driver threw a fit, said he wasn't going out at all that week and walked out the door. He came in friday and asked to borrow money to buy presents.(because he didn't have a check) Been here five years so i gave him an advance. Just shows that to some the least little thing can set them off. More so close to the holidays. You learn to live with it.

You should wait to see what his reason is for not delivering the load. If he doesn't have a good reason, or explanation then just tell him your going to have to let him go. You have to remember things happen in this life he, or his wife/so may be sick, or what have you, and depending upon his relationship with you he may be scared right now to call you.

You should give him until the 26th(Monday.) If he doesn't contact you just write it off as you letting him go due to not showing up for work, not delivering the load, and not contacting you. You need to be careful on how you word it when you fire him because you can bet he's probably going to try for unemployment.

I sure need a job.. I'm in southern Ohio....

I won't be looking for a driver until Tuesday, Ive just never had anyone do this to us before. It doesn't make me to happy that people do this on daily bases...

It is a gamble with drivers anymore. With all the back ground checks you still never know what you are getting. Their is not much loyalty any more on both sides.

My thinking is if I have one truck and drive it myself I will live longer then most fleet owners. I have always been told a driver will make or break you.

I was gonna say.......If hes not dead, comatose, or tied up in the back of a van somewhere, fire him on the spot.

It seems that you are more concerned about what could have happened to him than some others here. Rightfully so,it's not the first time I've seen this kind of thing happen and ended up being more to the story than just another truck driver that flew the coop without notice.
In one case a driver was waiting at a truck stop close to his next morning pickup. When he failed to show at the shipper the next morning we called the truckstop and asked them to look for the truck in the parking lot. He was there, dead in the truck. A young guy too and healthy as far as anyone knew.

I agree with nip it in the bud. If he aint dead or in the hospital then he's taking advantage of your generosity. Theres a crap load of crappy drivers out her just like him. If everybody fires them then they wont have anyplace to go except for McDonalds, where they belong. I dont know how many trucks ya got but lets say you got 5 and 2 are driven by loyal, hardworking drivers and 3 arent. You will get more out of the two trucks than all 3 of the others combined. Get rid of the dead weight when possible and take care of your good drivers.

Drug test his ### when he comes back. That's when his crack runs out.

Do the same thing to him as he did to you. When he comes in Tuesday tell him to wait in the truck and YOU will call him as soon as the details are worked out on the next load. When he tries calling you don't answer, after a couple hours then you inform him he is fired. Might as well waste his time because he sure didn't care about your business or any ramifications his little stunt could of caused you. Even if he was hurt, sick, or in jail, he could of had someone to call and inform you of whats up.

One thing you could do is stop payment on his payroll check, he will show up then. Put him in a bind and cost him a little trouble as he did to you.
