Insurance is included in the fixed costs. IIRC, (mostly because I'm too lazy tonight to look!) the 4.5 cpm goes into your tire escrow. Can't say about the SLC dispatch crew, but I have heard good things about them. You'd probably be best of PM'ing Sazook about team training financials on the lease side.

ok doing the math from what I have gathered, as a solo lease driver I see the breakdown as such......

    2800 miles per week average
1.60 per mile average by the website makes 1.15 per mile for your 72%
    gross revenue is $3220
minus fuel.........$1455....2800miles /7.5mpg is 373 gal of fuel at $3.90 per gal.
minus lease.......$1300....truck pmt and all ins/fees
lease pmt.........$126.00... the 4.5 cpm tire acct
    --------
equals anet of $339.00 take home pay for a week

    but..............
as a lease driver and training students..........5500 miles per week at $1.15 per mile average

    gross revenue......$6325
    fuel....................$3064 @5500 miles/7mpg/785 gal X $3.90
    lease pmt............$1300...truck/ins/qualcomm
    lease escrow........$247.50...4.5 cpm
    -----------
take home pay.... $1713.50 for the week

does this sound like a ballpark kinda range to be expecting?

Cmon lease drivers throw me a bone here.....thanks

I could be wrong (we are company), but I believe the $1.60 average is the 72% LH. Not 72% of $1.60. (Or it is as you say, but you forgot fuel surcharge, which does get paid to the truck.)

Even the company runs I'm tracking pay way better than $1.15/mile.

Ironpony has a good handle on the numbers side of lease, reasonably sure that he makes more than $339/week.

Can't say about the training side. However I will say this - if you are training because labor is cheap, you're doing the student and the industry a disfavor. I have nothing but contempt for people with little experience in trucking who think that they can "train" someone. Find a real codriver.

Yeah, my trainer just had a $1700 dollar week, but 1 of our loads paid $4 pm.

I've had weeks like that too, but we're talking averages. If I recall correctly, I put over $2800 in the bank one week - that's with all trips completed within the week.

hey IP just curious as far as the training other drivers option, I have been driving 15 years, I would be looking to maximize profits so putting a student in the truck would help me as well as the trainee, I can only think if nobody ever trained me back in the day where would I have gotten my start as well, or any of us for that matter. Just sayin. but those numbers look much better than what I was figuring. 1000 a week tho as a lease driver seems low tho, might as well be a company driver at that rate huh.

Conservative numbers my friend - I do better than $1k per week. Company drivers may get up to that level, but its not a continuous event. It also depends on what you want out of your driving experience, how the economy is doing, etc. Personally, I like calling my own shots, and I have other plans that this dovetails into.

As far as the low-time driver training comment - others will read that and they should note it. I don't think you fit the bill for that myself!

Many company drivers earn better than 1 grand a week. A guy with 15 years experience should be earning somewhere between 65 and 75 per year. That equates to 1300 to 1400 gross per week so your take home pay should be around 1 grand per week.

The only benefit a lease program offers is it "might" offer a little more control over where you drive and when. A lease PURCHASE may even buy you a truck after several years of busting your butt. In the end we are all doing the same job; moving freight from one location to another.

Just remember as a lease op you get the "privelage" of paying all the business expenses and taxes yourself. No pay when you go home either; No paid holidays, no paid sick days, no paid personal days, no paid vacation. Companies offer these benefits to their drivers and have figured those expenses into their rates ahead of time. As a lease op you get whatever YOU saved (which after all your weekly expenses wont be much).

Face it dude, the money these solo lease ops make after ALL their expenses amounts to less than what a company driver earns.

The best part of all? Company drivers dont have the head aches and stress a lease op does.

Head aches such as break downs, where to fuel, how much time can I afford to take off when I want to go home, maintenance on a truck, and constant stress about turning enough miles per week to cover all your expenses without getting a negative settlement.

Remember, Prime is a "lease" program aka RENT a truck deal.
