I'm gonna try to do this without offending you so here goes,
Ive got to ask, you say you don't take med's, so how do even receive disability benefits?? How do you treat it or "cope" with it, or have you used it to just get a "check"?
Before people flame me for even going there, it's just, if it was THAT bad wouldnt you be on some type of meds?? And if it is THAT bad should he be given a "safety sensitive" job such as driving a truck??
I noticed you say you're a loner, well I don't know about the rest of the drivers but I find myself dealing with people all the time, and this isnt the traveling you think it is, it gets repetitive and boring and then you claim your ADHD is that bad to where as you get disability, how in the world would you stay focused on your job??
DISCLAIMER:I'M NOT A DOCTOR AND I'M NOT MAKING FUN OF ANYONE!! I DO NOT WANT TO OFFEND ANYONE, BUT I THINK THESE ARE SERIOUS QUESTIONS WHICH SHOULD BE ASKED.Last edited: Dec 25, 2011

ADHD is not a form of depression.
Call some companies and ask if your history would prevent you from being hired. -
well i guess i would say that i dont cope with it i just deal with it i live alone so it doesnt bother anybody else.it stops me from focusing on single tasks and i talk alot around other people which slows me down.
i was perscribed strattera for it but stoped taking it because i didnt like the zombie fealing.about the "safety sensitive" job part.the senery is always changing your looking at your mirrors shifting gears pretty much always doing something that keeps your attention.multiple tasks is where i accel at.i reccently looked online for adhd truck drivers and most say they prefure truck driving over any job they have ever had.
ive done allot of strait runs from michigan to florida and back in a geo metro.3 times in one week once for my mom.thats flying by the seat of your pants there and i know you truckers pick geos out of your grill all the time
.pretty much what i meen by loner is when im working i like to work alone if people are around it slows me down.talking to dispatch occasionally or the guy at the drop off point is no problem.

i wasnt at first shure if my adhd would stop me .but i called schnider and they told me that if they wont hire me because of my adhd they can get sued for discrimination of disability.he also sayed not to bring it up if not asked about it.he sayed im not taking meds for it so ill pass the drug test.i guess theres something in adhd meds that will show up.but im thinking how do i explain the gap in work history without branging it up that i was on disability.i guess i could tell him that i out grew it think that would work.

well i think if they are saying that u shouldnt bring it up if ur not asked they are just trying to save there butt so that if u do get in an accident the blame can go on you for not saying anything, im not sure but i would think cause if it is a disability and it can distract u while driving a rig than thats a pretty serious thing. also if u do pass all that u still have to get a license. not everyone can drive a truck. u cant teach someone how to drive they are born with it. its a skill that some people have and some dont. just because u can drive a car real good or even a manual transmission car real good doesnt mean u can drive a big rig. but i do hope the best for u and hope u can find work cause everybody needs work and everyone has dreams so more power to u
