I'm planning to sign up for training very soon, and the school I chose seems to be on everyone's $&#@ list around here. Yawl seem very knowledgeable and helpful so I'd love some good advice. I'm in Arizona. Thanks!

There are no "good" schools... Oh yea they advertise "learn how to drive a truck" .but what they really are is a place to get a CDL..They will show you everything you need to know to take & pass the DMV test....I reccomend you go down to the DMV office pick-up a CDL class A hand book and read that puppy till your eyes bleed, then take the written test and get your temp. license... After you have a temp you can find somebody that will let you drive with them and show you the AIR brake tests and parking then rent a truck to take to the DMV for your road test...Sounds like a lot of trouble I know, However DO NOT sign on with a company that says they will train you.The strings that come with are long and tangled. It's a pie that looks good but taste's like ####...

I recommend the same, I did it this way. Its cheaper and you can take your time learning. I'm tell ya 2k-6k for trucking driving school wow. I've been around the industry my whole life and it was different for me. I knew how to drive before I went, get through the gears, backing up and a proper pre-trip. If your not familiar with the industry it could be a little harder to manage, practice time backing up and going through the gears and getting it down the road. I checked out a local trucking school to rent me a truck they said no but they pointed me a direction where I could rent one. A local truck dealer helped me out just thought I would add that, because renting a truck was tricky for me unless you know someone with a truck and trailer, with all the proper paperwork to boot. Good luck.... Get the book, study hard and you got it. Keep the rubber side down. Blink blink flash flash......
