I drove for them back in 08.Thinkin about checking into them again. I liked working there but the miles weren't so good then.
Do they have an idle policy now?

They have 13 speeds and Auto's and 10 speeds. I finished orientation and they flew me down to Tulsa to pick up a brand new T-660 with a Eaton Fuller 10 speed. Truck had 2.4 miles on it. I had 1.5 yrs previous experience flatbedding which is why I got a new truck. But even their old trucks are new. I was told they are buying 350 new trucks next year. I live in Central MI and they deadheaded me home from Chicago for my 1st hometime. Youngstown was a great place for orientation and the drivers in Tulsa were very friendly and helpful.

Anyone know if Melton offers a regional driving gig out of their Youngstown Ohio yard; where you are not out for 2-3 weeks at a time?

on occasion, something pops up that is more time out...currently drivers in that area can flag every 7 days, and it normally takes 5-7 days to get home in that area. Staying out = more money, but oftentimes home is more important. call 800-635-8669 to see if we have something suitable for you .

You didnt get a new truck because you had 1.5 years experience....

It's just all they had to give out. They just bought 350 new trucks, and are selling off the older ones. I have run into a few guys that had zero flatbed experience, and even guys that have less than a year driving altogether, and they were in a new KW.

Well, so far so good. From what I have been told by other drivers there, the loads I have been getting are some of the hardest to tarp because I was getting a bit discouraged by it considering how long it was taking me to wrap those odd shaped loads. They say my last load was a rare one so things should get a little easier. One guy said he was lucky he didn't have to haul a coil in his first 4 months there. Over all I like the job. I'm actually starting to feel better with all the physical work but you will definitly find your weakness' though because you WILL work your ### off. It's a whole different world from reefer/dry van. For the longest time I've watched guys running flatbed and they make it look easy but it's far from it. I've got enough to get me by but still have a lot to learn and every time I talk to a driver or someone helps me folding tarps I'll help fold theirs and they will give useful tips to make life easier before and even after making a mistake. So far the money is good and almost everyone in the company is really nice with the exception of one I've talked to. Everywhere else has had everyone at the home office yell or try and cram #### down your neck at some point because something wasn't done right or whatever but they actually stop, take the time and help you with anything you need. They even went out of their way to make sure not only that I made it home on time for my wedding but made it home early enough to make sure all the arrangments where set which I didn't ask for but helped me with. So far so good.
