You tell 'em brother! I have been constantly amused at how there are always ways to use the regs in your favor, yet so many will whine and cry about how they can't do anything. I have used splits under the old rules and under the 2/8 provision since I have been driving. It is so simple, my grandson could figure it out. It is even simpler now that I have been on EOBR for a year. It does all the split calculating for me. No risk.
This new reg is hardly a speed bump in the road, if one knows what they are doing. Will have very little effect on my operation. Not worried about any loss of revenue. I got very familiar with the new reg since it was proposed. Have already figured out how to comply yet at the same time, get what I need to do done.
I have little sympathy for those that can't figure this stuff out. It isn't rocket science.

The fact is, you can't make everybody happy. There are good and bad about these new regs. What I see as good, the "safety" wackos think is bad and vice versa.
Some of this stuff is actually common sense, like being off duty while you're watching Swifties park while yapping on the CB. Some of it is crap, like demanding all drivers be on the same schedule or have their hours penalized via that nonsense 0100 to 0500 provision.25(2)+2 Thanks this. -

I never got a complete 10 at a shipper or receiver, but any number of times got 10s up to 34s at company yards.

No, I am not the only one that matters. But, I do run a business and I am not obligated in anyway to see that anyone else succeeds in theirs. I have no problem lending a hand when someone wants it, but I have no tolerance for cry babies that can't figure out their rear end from a hole in the ground.
My obligation is not to others in trucking. It is to my business, my family, and my customers. That is why, in this somewhat challenging economic climate, I have remained debt free, except for mortgage, and profitable. If others can't manage their business and adjust to changing conditions, or worse, are not even trying, then I will just have to let them drift on their own.
I don't like the new regs. They serve no useful purpose except to give warm fuzzies to political interests. But they are what they are, and I can adjust. I refuse to live in the past. I could have spent my life whining and crying about having lost my youth in Vietnam, but I regrouped and moved forward. This isn't much different.
Either lead, follow, or get out of the way. I have no time for anyone's negativism. Stand up, ruck up, and move out. I will listen to anyone who is honestly trying and seeking solutions. I could care less about those that have nothing to do but b%$^&. -
I am out here to make money. The BS 34 reset rule has the potential to hamper that. The piddly stuff happening in Feb will not have much of an affect.
My point is that we are all in many different situations. The new rules will affect everyone differently. -
I have always done about the same thing you are talking about. If I hadn't, my bosses nor I would have ever made any money over the years. If drivers had used common sense over the years, we wouldn't have these ever changing HOS rules they keep cracking down on. You know when you are tired and wore out. If a driver nods off even once it could mean their life or someone else. A load of anything isn't worth that! There are all kind of factors that can make you tired and need rest. Traffic, weather, stress at home, moron customers that want you to continuously move your truck to different docks while you are trying to sleep. If you try to live your work time by a log book, it makes your job very hectic. And even more dangerous than if you just use common sense. One thing I would like to see is drivers be paid by the hour. I have only seen a pay increase of about 4 cents per mile for entry level drivers over the past 15 years. That's ridiculous! If you check out the hours worked and factor in everything, that's chicken feed! A driver that operates a 80,000 lb vehicle with maniac 4 wheelers all around him, delivering products that keep America going, should be making more than a kid at the local McDonalds!airforcetoo and Dave 1960 Thank this.
