Jail was a little extreme....But the idiot should have used his brain to override the GPS!
I have a GPS in my truck but it spends quite a bit of time recalculating because I don't follow it blindly.
It's a tool and that's all it is...If you follow it blindly, You're a tool too.

Actually your first statement is totally debatable. As for this poor guy trying to do his job, well, perhaps he should have tried a little bit harder. He screwed up plain and simple.

Now as to the arrest and ridiculous bail, that is another matter all together. :biggrin_25512:

Can't blame the GPS. Like someone else said, there were probably signs posting the weight limits. You have to use some common sense.

Now what it appears to me is this all revolves around money. The judge 'assumes' the company will post bail. This tells me the fines will be at least the bail amount and the judge is counting on the company to pay.
Would he have set the amount so high, knowing the driver had to come up with the cash himself?
The judge was within his rights. Seems to me the fines are excessive.
But them's the rules and we all have to abide by them.

    GPS, Qualcomm,E-Logs...Bugger!:biggrin_25510:

Just let the computers drive the darned truck, and leave the driver out of the equation completely! Seems like more and more of these newer "truckers" are just doing what the computer tells them to rather than using the brain God or Evolution GAVE THEM!

And people wonder why I begin laughing hysterically when asked why I quit trucking!

It looks to me more like poor trip planning. I cant see why Mr. Madison didnt bother to call the reciever and ask if the directions were acceptable for the load. Trusting the gps to get you there totally is wrong. Those things really are set up primarily for cars and pickups. It is you the driver that has to confirm where you are taking the load.

Alas I am with the police on this. You get behind the wheel of that truck, it really is your fault if you wont do your job ahead of time. I am sure he will be checking his route next time he takes a load.

I cant believe any of you think he should go to jail for a mistake. Yes he made several mistakes. Relying on Gps, poor trip planning, disobeying traffic control sign etc. Etc. Etc blah, blah, blah yad da yad da yad da. Jail time and thousands of dollars in fines where no ome was killed, injured, or harmed in any way? Haven't any of you made a wrong turn? it sounds like soe of you have been brainwashed.

    Nice rephrase.

I make mistakes all the time and when or if those mistakes have involved law enforcement or any other govermental interaction I call the attorney for advice and solutions.

That is why I am saying an Attorney like Urbano who has handled all of my legal needs on a right away basis over the years and is on speed dial is essential. (f'd up wording, I apologize.) .

Say Mr. Madison had on the same day been guilty of poor trip planning, disobeying traffic control signs, and driven that Chem tanker under a low clearance spilling toxic chemicals all over the place and creating a noxious gas cloud that sent several hundred retired PA civil service workers and nuns to the morgue?

Would The Rodzilla still be "blah, blah, blah yad da yad da yad da"ing the forum with accusations of the posters being "brainwashed?"

I say that The Rodzilla would be just as shocked and horrified and talking smack like the rest of us.

** Sure people make mistakes but when those mistakes have the potential to harm the general public in a severe way it seems like a good thing that the state police was there doing their job because Mr. Madison wasn't doing his.

This story could have gone either way.
