Have a question on the same issue, different motor. Have a CAT C12 & yesterday while it was idling in 60 degree weather (was loading cars, need it running to operate PTO) it blew coolant out of the overflow. Oil & water temp gauges read fine, so rolled back down 2 miles to the truck stop. Replaced the radiator cap(was 10lb stock, could only find a 16lb on X-mas eve) refilled with less than a pint. It idled fine, no more over flow on the ground.
This morning ran the truck for a bit to warm up & it leaked out of the lower radiator hose. Tightened the clamps & cured that leak. Then after the sun came up I was looking around & noticed the waste gate actuator housing had separated from the base plate. Noticed the sound of the turbo changed a bit rolling into town Friday night, though no sudden noise or smoke.
While I am worried that the coolant deal is from a head gasket issue & only hoping it is the cap, what about the waste gate? Am 1600 miles from home & know it will be rape going into a local KW or Peterbilt shop. Any ideas & could the waste gate deal relate in any way to the coolant issue?

Replace the radiator cap with the correct one and pay attention to the coolant level and usage to determine if you do have a problem.
replace the wastegate hose with a silicone 1/4" hose as soon as possible. You're loosing boost from it now and this is effecting throttle response and power.LBZ Thanks this. -
Found out the wastegate actuator housing can be purchased....along with the rest of the turbo. The good is the pricing is not all that bad,($845) the bad is that their service crew is working half shift for the holiday. Digging around now to see if I have enough tools on board. -
If I read you correct, your saying the round part of the wastegate where the rubber line connects to broke in some way and is either leaking boost or physically letting the wastegate hang open? If there is nothing wrong with the exhaust housing of the turbo itself there is no way I would buy a new turbo just because of that. Imo, just plug or pinch the line and use a hose clamp or something to hold the lever for the gate closed. You can get a new wastegate only just not from the dealer, don't buy a new turbo until you need one. It's like buying new wheels for your truck because you got a nail in your tire.just my $.02

KW said there probably wouldn't be much issue running as is,fix later sort o thing. F/liner made me out to be an idiot for even thinking of rolling out of town when they had a nice $1350 CAT turbo ready to go. -
Cool , I wasn't sure what your plan was after reading your post and I hate to see anyone spend big$$ if they don't need to. Hope it goes well for ya..

well i cant see where the original question was answered...so would it be ok to unhook the waste gate? 05 c 15 ... just wondering if it would help with mpgs?
-
Leave the wastegate alone on an 2005 C15 Acert
it will actually hurt MPG. The reason for this is the exhaust gas pressures will go up in the manifold and the motor will have to work harder to push them out of the engine. -
what about on a 2000 3406e would it be good to unhook
