Pretty sure freightliner had bought out WS before production of the Lowmax started.

I'm pretty sure you could order the equivilant of the Lo-Max in the late 90's as a special order. It was geared toward car haulers so no one really used it as a road tractor. I'll give you the condensed version. Around 95,96 I dealt with an independant shop that was located next door to the FORD St Thomas Ont assembly plant. They did a lot of repair/maintainaince work for Auto haulaway car haulers who did the work for Ford. There was a demand for a lower profile truck than the Louisville style Fords. They lowered several for O/O's and word got back to W/S. eventually the factory actually sent some reps out and inspected their work. I don't know what happened behind closed doors but a couple years later the auto haulers could get that as a option. The independant shop got a W/S dealership around the same time. He had it until Freightliner blended the dealerships around 2001 and got some sort of a buyout as his dealership was only a few years old at the time. It seems like a stretch but thats the rough version. I have no reason to lie so you can believe or disbelieve which ever you choose.

Just like Paccar and International and every other truck out on the road today. Everything is made somewhere else other than the US. It just gets put together here.
