    My opinion:
    1. CDL Mills = Companies who put people behind the wheel on public road ways before the are ready and hope they make it.
    2. There are schools for this type of training either private, or a community college. The instructor will NOT put someone on the public roadways before they are confident of the drivers ability. I know, this is how I got my cdl 22 years ago.
3.The private schools, and the community coleges DO NOT have freight to haul on a regular basis. They are not losing money on missed loads.
Not only that, but if the school turns out well trained drivers, they will get references from companies.

22 years ago when I was doing research between a community college and Sun Prarie truck driving school, I was told by 3 large MN companies to go to the community college. Reason: " They will take the time needed to ensure the student is properly trained". Sun Prarie advertised a 3 week turn around, and back then, the rules and reg. weren't half as confusing.

It takes more than 3 weeks. In the community college I learned logs, we had to do them every day, including weekends. We did them over if they were wrong. Wiring trucks and trailers, 5 different transmissions and actually drove each one, 4 different lengths of trailers including doubles, DOT REGs., Backed up on mile long curvy circle in one shot. If you had a tire go off the road, you were done. Until you could back up the entire road with no pull ups, and all tires on the pavement, you were NOT allowed on the public roadways. Backing into docks, several different types of docksdocksCoupling and pre trip, lighting, HM regs, had to change a tire by hand with out power tools ( back then Buds were just getting popular, these were Dayton Hubs). But by God I could do it, and It came in hand with my first dump truck job, I changed my own tires quite often. Refer units, Tankers, Flats, Vans, motors. Oh and by the way we were timed. If you couldn't do the back up road in 3 min, you failed. The test circuit of 4 different docks with out hitting or running over the cones, rt turns, left turns dimminishing allley (starts wide then narrows) you had 15 minutes. If not, you failed. All this before you hit the public streets. A butt load of knowledge. When the instructors felt we were ready we were offered actual loads.
I spend alot of time by an area where CR England has a training facility. This is what I've witnessed of there training. oout the parking lot to hwy 20 turn left go 2.5 miles to the Ponderosa parking lot turn around and head back. Thats it. I thought to myself, REALLY?!?! Not!!!! I don't wonder why big companies are just "CDL MILLS" I know.
Oh and BTW I am the only trucker in my family. So I didn't have any advantage when I started. Not only that, but my instructors told me
"You'll make it, you'll just have to try harder than others". I did and 22 yrs later I'm still here. Thank God they didn't just shove me out on the road, before I was ready. You could screw up your CDL before you even get a chance to have good experience.

So I hope this answers your question.

    Corporal_Clegg and popmartian Thank this.

I can't imagine this is the first time this guy has wiggled his willie for a trainee. If Covenant knew about this guys unconventional training methods, I think they better get their checkbook ready.

The part I did not understand is why she could not call:
    a) The company
    b) The supervisor
    c) put a message on QC
I mean, was she terrorized by this guy? Then call 911! I guess she did not have a cell phone with a camera... I have no idea about COVENANT, but companies tend to take "sexual harassment" claims seriously... but who knows, and I hope she is well.

You know Georgeandson, I agree with you, I'm a female who used to work in an office had the meanest boss everyone one was afraid of him but me. People asked me why, because you can holler, scream, all you want its water off a duck's back to me. But if you put your hands on me IT ON! And I don't mean land a punch. I mean, brick, bottle, stab with pen, peppere spray, knifed with keys, then scream for help over the QC, CB, phone to the police. Then while the police are ascertaining who telling the truth and who's the liar, then call the company.

I go out in three weeks and there is no way in hell I'm going to let so one push me around on a job!

I really feel badly for that lady, but for further people... usually people like that have PRIOR complaints -- Even if you get in the truck and see LUDE photos -- right there and then that is sexual harassment -- EVEN IF YOU ARE A MAN!! NO matter what company you are in!
Sexual HARASSMENT Laws are there even if you are not hired... ASK to speak to human resources if your DM/FM supervisor does not listen to you and REPORT THEM... ULTIMATELY,you need to research your company in regards to their track record in this issue... or many issues... --> we do have this place, wheww!!!

Thank you for the vote of confidence. As far as the e-log, for grain hauling??? I think not so much. But don't quote me. I have been to grain mills since I've hauled food products in a pneumatic. Some of those guys can be outlaws as well. They are on a time limit even more so than others. I have never seen an elog ever, I can't see it being any different than paper, except being very convenient for the DOT and the Company, not to mention saving a tree or two. I'm sure once you clear school, and start hauling you'll learn the rticks of the trade. Good luck to you and keep me posted. Happy New Year !!
