I live in Kansas. If I buy a truck and go straight O/O (no leasing onto a company), how would I go about getting a state inspection for the truck, and are inspections required before getting plates? Also would I be able to drive the truck off the lot without tags and authority numbers until I receive the proper tags, or is there another solution? The reason I ask is because I was considering buying from a truck wholesale lot here in Wellsville, KS. Thanks for any advice!

Look it up in your local phone book to find dot inspection place. Inspection then insurance then plates and proper tags. As long as u got the title i believe u can drive it home thats what i did.

Thank you for your reply! It's a lot clearer to me now. -
You can get it inspected from any truck repair shop. The dealer will give you a driveaway tag, and you can get driveaway insurance from OOIDA. Since you do not have any insurance whatsoever now, you do not want to leave the lot without some. The best way to do it would be to get coverage bound for your authority when you buy the truck. That insurance will cover you, even though you can't haul anything yet.
