It was mentioned that he could go with a company for a few months experience, then go out on his own with his own authority. Will companies use an independent driver without a few years experience? If so, is the insurance an issue?
How many O/O didn't do the cdl mill

When I started out I had a whopping 6 hours driving experience and half that was taking the driving test. It is possible to get insured (of course it costs more) and it is possible to get loads. The brokers don't care how long a driver has been on the road they care how long a company has been in business. Is it easy to go this route, no but it is possible.jamesd503 Thanks this.

I recently did a small amount of research for this type of thing for someone. The guy pasted below is in CA. But if you look perhaps you can find what I did. I found another of these type of services. It was like in TN or some state around there maybe. My memory is fails me right now on that. If you get a cdl in one state you can switch it to another. I don't know all that is involved in all states.
I believe the guy pasted below cost $500. You get them for a day or like X amount of hours. And they give you one on one help on how to pass the test and then you go to the DMV.
We don't use autoshifts for the simple reason that our clients would be left with a restricted license. Our trucks are 6 speed fully synchronized transmissions and shift just like a pickup truck would. So, no double clutching or rev matching is required. Our trailers are 24' overall length. Jiffy's has been in business for 14 years and have gotten over 4,000 people their licenses with an overall first time pass rate of 97%. Please let me know if I can be of further service. 530-226-0923.
Thanks for your inquiry!

Jiffys is the service I use it is 595 for 6 hours (2 of those hours is for taking the test though) and you can add hours for about 100 a piece the trucks are super easy to drive and back if in Calif go to the one in west Sacramento.
person Thanks this. -
I don't have my CDL but am mainly interested in becoming an O/O. I'd like to start by working for, then partnering with another O/O. Do you think it is at all reasonable to think I could convince an O/O to take on a new guy with a CDL but no experience? Perhaps if I could work for cheap?
-
This has been asked time after time . If an O/O wanted somebody in his truck with him they'd already be there and they'd be somebody he could have confidence in to be responsible for a very valuable piece of equipment he depends on for his livelihood . Newbies need not apply .

Try suggesting military to some of these wannabes desperate for work and listen to their "political " reasons for not enlisting .
Then they want government grants to pay for their schooling .
You know the gutless wonders won't be able to hack trucking .Bucktrucker Thanks this. -

No CDL mill here............learned from an uncle at a tender age and had my commercial license on my 18th birthday. That was 23 years ago and was a GREAT school; but I realize not everyone grows up in a trucking family.
