I watched this guy awhile back down in El Paso. This mass of human blob never got out of his truck in the A.M. . He just started moving foward and then when the tire poped off he backed up till the bumper started bending. Then this brain trust did his Pre-Trip. I sent US express a email with pictures and never reply. I asked where they get their drivers?
If you look in window you can see ole driver probally as hard on a grab handle too.

How exactly do you do a PROPER pre-trip on a truck that has fairings/skirts/other crap covering everything you're supposed to inspect? That thing (even with 10 properly inflated tires) sits so close to the ground that even a scrawny little punk kid couldn't look underneath that truck to inspect the brakes, axle seals, drive shaft, look for leaks in the differentials, transmission, fuel tank straps, etc....
Those side fairings and skirts ought to be illegal, as any driver who has them on his truck is unlikely to have ever done a proper inspection on the vehicle. -
What, you can't open a hood? Or are you just worried about gettin a little dirty? I've had to deal with all the fairings and other crap, and still managed to do my pretrips to my satifaction.
P.S. a scrap of carpet remnant can come in real handy for climbing under the trailer to check 5th wheel locking mechanisms, differential leaks, rear tractor brakes, so on and so forth.flightwatch Thanks this. -
Only the things in the engine compartment can be accessed by opening the hood. There's a LOT more to doing a PROPER pretrip than just looking at the few things under the hood.
When was the last time you inspected your drive shaft, U-joints, and yolks? Brake adjustment? Got a good look at your brake shoes to make sure there was sufficient pad and they weren't cracked or separating from the steel shoe? Looked at the drums for cracks? Looked to see if the axle seal was leaking gear oil into the drum? How about looking at the transmission to make sure it isn't starting to leak? All of that requires that you get under the truck...which you just can't do with all those fairings and skirts on the truck.
