Where to Get First Load

Apparently there are many drivers that do not understand this concept because there's many of them running around out there reeking of garlic balony!

 

I took your OP to mean that if you are leased to a carrier, can you search load boards and book loads if your carrier doesn't have anything available.

A: I think it depends on your lease and the carrier you're leased to. Ultimately, you're doing it under their authority, so they will dictate the terms and the carrier agreement with a third party.

I'm sure folks more familiar with that arrangement will be able to provide a better answer and some examples.

 

I think the loads pay full rate to the brokerage and they want you to think that they are so gracious to be furnishing you this balony load to get you back to home base. Get the rate both ways and don't reek of garlic balony! Eat steak instead!

 

Fuel / insurance / driver pay/ maintenance/ etc is same whether you are heading out or coming back. We do not take backhaul for diesel only.

reality is, someone is taking them though...

 

Way back when, had a broker offer me a "backhaul" with the added bonus of "at least it will pay for your fuel"

So I told him, "OK, this load will take 3 days driving to deliver. Let's say that tomorrow and the the next 2 days, you show up for work, put in 10hrs a day, and your employer will pay you $10 a day to cover your gas to and from work. Would you work for that??"

Broker: "Well...hmmm...eeeeh ..... choke..... hmmm"

Me" Didn't think so, but you don't seem to mind me doing it. That load can sit and rot on the dock."

Again with the broker bashing? I didn't come up with the term. I've had truck drivers use it saying they needed something to backhaul back home.
