It was discussed earlier on another thread. Google slingbox. It is part of sling media and they give a demonstration. I briefly watched it and might look into further.

A slingbox is a box that plugs into your highspeed internet and your DVR at home and you can access all of your DVR and realtime TV from anywhere with a highspeed connection. I know people who get good resolution on their aircard. You can even do it on a smartphone like a treo.

No fees other than the cost of the internet connections and the box itself.

I just called our cell phone co. today. I was told I could buy a data card (air card) and use the our cell phone sim card in it & have internet & cell phone use seperately for $30 (before taxes I am sure). Or I could purchase a sim card seperately that will be used excusively for the laptop for $10 more a month. OR I could just plug my cell phone into an adapter then into the laptop and not have to buy an air card.

The positive, it seems cheaper than what I've been hearing. The negative, it is only 144 kilobytes strong, a little better than dial up.

NOW, I'll be wishing I didn't just upgrade our cell plan for another two year contract. Looks like Altell has that beat though! Any other fees on that Altel wackyncrazy?

Never herd of alltel, but I'm way behind times when it comes to electronics. I'll check it out though. Thanks

Nope I just looked at my bill and no extra fees on the data cable for internet, well but your normal taxes and stuff. I was looking at the coverage map and the broadban service is limited but you do get service in most areas. I only use the internet to surf, email, myspace, stuff like that. I know sprint has good coverage with there air cards. I have a couple of friend that have sprint and they are happy with them. It just takes alot of checking into differnt companies and seeing what they have to offer. Me I would never sign a 2 year contract or any corntract at all. That is how the hook you is by the contract so if you must sign go for the least amount of time you can.

I heard Verizon has the best coverage for cell service. The guy at the Verison store said that if you have cell service then you have internet. He also said they have really good broadband coverage too. He said they are trying to go broadband nation wide. They are hoping to get it within a year. I live in a little town of 11,000 people and we just got Verison broadband here so I'm thinking that Verison may be the way to go.
