Here is what I did and it worked for me.
Before I ever even set foot in school, I had at least 5 pre hires. They are not worth anything, but at least it was the first steep in finding out if there was anything on my application that was an issue. Not everyone that I applied to accepted me. I found that showing I was unemployed was a problem. I was working as a Realtor, which I was not actually employed...but once I showed that I was presently working, the problem went away.
Towards the end of my schooling I started getting Orientations set up.
I had them lined up one after another so that if anything happened at the first one I would go on to the second one and so on.
As it turned out I got hired at the first one and I am still there after almost 2 years.
The point I am trying to make, is be pro-active and not re-active.
Getting info on here is the right idea. Research the companies that you are interested in...make a plan and then execute your plan.
Be prepared for bumps in the road and work towards your goal, which should be to get into the industry.
Just my two cents worth.jkd1118 Thanks this. -
Like This. I am about to Go to school my self. I am trying to find smaller companies in the south to start out with. I am not looking to get rich, O/O/, Lease, Or any of the crap that seems to go on with the maga carriers as you call them. Just want to spend the next 15-20 years hauling and being a safe driver. if anybody knows of any good companies to look at drop me a line.
