After reading these posts, It's easy to see why working conditions and pay are like they are. Pack of sheep, Trucking companie owners and the shippers gotta love reading these posts. This is what happened in construction, the owners started hireing illegals and the pay got lower and lower. My Dad was a life long teamster And he was able to give his family a good life. He's gotta be rolling over in his grave seeing how low trucking has sunk. Glad most of you are happy.

You sound like a person that hates life. You are so negative on everything you do. I would suck to be you .....
-
Actually Dude I'm a happy guy, Most people getting into the industry now are doing so because of the economy, I can't keep track of how many guys in there 50s are just starting out in trucking, nobody will hire them because of their age. It is what it is, we're living in tough times. But, don't worry be happy.

Its a ruff life over the road i did it for only 3 months and my only beef is being stuck in a truck for a week sucks. Its hard to find parking at a starbucks to have a coffee. Constantly moving #### around in the cab like clothes bags, garbage piss bottles, paperwork, you have to keep things very organized. I do enjoy going to the next load cause its the start of a new adventure. Oh having to take a crap on the road when going through the appalachen mountains sucks. I had to pull over and #### in a pilot plastic bag.

There's times I really like the job, I like the driving part(the part you get paid for) it's the other parts that suck, like sitting at a dock and theres 2 pallets left to unload and the lumpers take their lunch, so you gotta sit and wait. Sittin at a truck stop waiting a day or 2 for a load. It's the free parts I don't like. Figure if I can last 3 years I can get on with a local outfit. If I was young and single it would'nt be a bad life. Your truck is your home, no rent. I gotta fridge and micro wave in my truck, gotta T.V. too. Save a lotta money on food. But like I said it ain't for everybody, but in this economy it's a job and there's something to be said for that. Endeavor to Persevere!!

This thread has continued to get even more depressing. Why can't I stop reading it? Happy newyear!!!!

I don't know where you work. I can only speak of my experience at my job. I drive a brand new 2012 truck, get paid well for what I do, get home when I want and get paid detention when being detained and layover when there is no load, and breakdown pay when something goes kaputt.
There are things that could be better, I agree. Last time I looked in the mirror I did not look like a four legged woolly and fluffy animal. Just because you have a job that apparently sucks does not mean we all do. -
Happy New Year!
And why did someone decide to dig up Jimmy? He was so happy 10 feet under the goal post in the Jets Stadium. -
Thats one of the reasons I try to shower as often as I do. I have excessive body hair, like sasquatch, and if I don't shower at least once a week it gets all matted and I take on the appearance as a heavy "planet of the apes" man.
Funny thing is also I can climb really well. I can scale up the side of my trailer in minutes.
If you cant afford a shower making trucker cash - do what I do and bring a kiddie pool along. Fill it up at stops and just take a bath under your trailer. -
There is no reason ANY driver should ever have to pay for a shower at any of the chain truckstops. Simply ask the next driver heading for the kiosk with a duffel bag in his hand if he will claim you as a co-driver. The frequent fueler card will have to be swiped by the cashier rather than the kiosk terminal but the the "1" free shower will be converted to "2" free showers.
I have done this many times for fellow drivers and even given free showers away if I were on my way home and didn't have use for 1 at that time.
The fact is your fellow drivers will help you out "if" you simply ask.rodzilla Thanks this.
