    Greetings all,

I am looking for a Flatbed company to start with, but all the ones I seem to call only offer solo company driving positions. I know you all like details so here is my situation.

I drove for Smithway Motor Express (SMX) back in 2005, as a solo driver for six months. I left the OTR for personal reasons, but continued to drive for a local company up until 2007. Then I changed careers.

I want to get back into OTR; I am currently enrolled in Central Tech, in Drumright, Ok in late Feb of 2012 with my wife of 3 years. She is getting her CDL class A for the first time, and I am taking the class over and just switching my CDL A from KS to OK. I will be going through as a newbie as well.

We know we will have to do the driver trainer part separate, But we would like to team drive. I know I can get into a refer or dry van easily, but my heart is in flatbed. I just love to work like a dog and then look back and say I did that. Plus the loads you get sometimes are really quite interesting.

    So what I need
    1. Flatbed Company that hires students.
    2. Flatbed company that runs teams.
    3. And prefer a company that they have a female driver to train my wife for her probation period.

I don’t mind working hard I know I am a newbie again which is fine. I just need some advice from the trenches, on how to proceed from here.

Thank you all for your great advice over the last six months I have been researching, have a great New Year and God Bless you richly.

you can try Roehl Transport.. But I am not sure you are in there team hiring area.. Another idea is go to your nearest truck stop and pick up one of those free hiring mags that are by the drivers ent.. I think they have one that is strictly for teams..

Don't feel bad about taking a position as a van driver for six months or a year. Let your wife get comfortable with the lifestyle before you throw tarping, chaining, and strapping at her.

    Look into swift.

I know a few swift Husband/wife teams on the flatbed side.

Not sure how the flatbed training works, but they do have it.

It's going to be tough to find an open-deck outfit that hires teams. The nature of the open-deck side of trucking usually doesn't work with teams for several reasons. Most shippers/customers that use open-deck trucks are only open during regular business hours. Additionally, if you're O/D you running hours are usually restricted to daylight hours. Both of these erase the benefits of teams being able to pile on a ton of miles and keep the truck moving all the time.

OD is going to be the area that team is less of a benefit.
The company I am with does have teams. All are couples.
Not going to help the OP as company requires 2 years current exp.

The teams I met while I was there were husband /wife or boyfriend /boyfriend.
Not sure how it works for two seperate people with bills.
