1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

where do I really stand? Are there better jobs?

I have 2 years otr pulling a 48 ft.step,no tickets,no wrecks and 1 HOS violation for not having 7 days of logsheets on me.I drive a 17 yo Volvo and get chewed by my boss when things go wrong with it because I wasnt "keeping an eye on that" We got audited by DOT about 6 months ago and have to run strictly legal now down to having to have time stamped fuel receipts on our IFTA sheets.Since then my weekly TAKEHOME average is 535$ That sux!I have no benefits just a paycheck. The only good part about it all is Im home every weekend.Am I doing as poorly as I think I am? Im only getting .30 cpm and havent had a raise for a year.Im reluctant to go to a bigger company cause I have 5 grandkids and like being home on weekends.I live right on I 70 in Topeka KS so does anyone have some places I could look into where I might be able to have my cake and eat it too?

There's a lot to be said for being home every weekend.

Most outfits run you as hard as they can and then push for more....

Hometime is something you get between jobs!

Sounds like finding a new outfit should be relatively easy with a good record and 2 yrs open-deck experience. I'm not sure if you're a company driver or a contractor, but if you're a contractor the issue I see is that the 17 yr old truck may restrict come of your options. It looks like the ongoing success of your current company is questionable since the audit suggests their business model is being forcibly changed whether or not they are prepared for that.

Best of luck to you in this decision.

I'd tell that boss to shove his POS truck and crappy pay where the sun don't shine. Sounds like another small-time broke-arse wannabee.

    $535 ÷ 40 hr/wk = $13.37/hr

If you are like any other driver I'm sure you work more than 60 hours a week.

    $535 ÷ 60 hr/wk = $08.91/hr

In reality if you add up every hour per week you spend filling out log books, pre-tripping, loading, unloading and driving, you might work anywhere from 90 - 120 hours per week.

    $535 ÷ 70 hr/wk = $07.64/hr
    $535 ÷ 90 hr/wk = $05.94/hr
    $535 ÷ 120 hr/wk = $04.45/hr

One of those funny McDonald's uniforms doesn't look so bad anymore does it?

Check out US Mail contractors is your area. Allot of guys quit after the holidays. They get burnt out running all the Extras. Regular runs good pay. Just find Bulk Mail Center or Main Post Office and note all the trucks that go in and out.

I was thinking the same thing... work 5am-2pm at McDonalds and take the rest of the day to drink beer and watch TV. You'll still make more $$$ and be home everyday.

no the truck isnt mine hence the ### chewings.I know I can get another job but like I said I enjoy being home on the weekends.Making an extra 100$ on my paycheck isnt worth sitting in a truckstop all weekend waiting to deliver on Monday. As we all know you sit at a truckstop....ya spend money. Ill run 3000 miles a week but I want my restart at home.If I cant be home on weekends I might as well team with someone and go make some real money.
