You should not be calling your husbands employer; it is not your place, it's his.

As someone that has spent a decade and a half managing employees, over a hundred at a time, I can assure you that your behavior, while I understand your stress, made your husband look unprofessional. I am sure that was not your intent; but still, that is the result.

In most cases an employer is restricted by labor laws and best practices and procedures of human resources from discussing his employment with anyone that is not him. Doing so can open them up to civil liability if he feels embarrassed, humiliated, or that a trust of confidentiality was breached.

They SHOULD NOT discuss his employment with anyone but him. That is the same reason that he was required to sign a release allowing PAM to request references from his previous employers when he went through application process.

Have your husband contact PAM directly. I am sure they gave him a point of contact and contact numbers.

It is possible that freight has diminished to the point that he may not go out for a while due to business closures, shut downs, and seasonal freight decreases. This is normal for rookies to find themselves sitting in slow periods.

I have a feeling as the wife of a trucker you are not going to like many things that you discover about your husbands new career... or maybe, you will be unhappy enough that it will soon be his previous career; trucking. This career requires a great deal of sacrifice, understanding, and support from family - that's your part. His part is to manage his career.

Please don't take the previous post in bad faith, it is the cold truth. I have had the thankless misfortune of managing others and discussing ANY aspects of a person's work life under you is a BIG NO, NO!!

 

Great points my friend.

But in the case of PAM (and quite a few of the other BF'ers), me thinks the fact they they are tied in with a driving school (I think C1 Solutions in PAM's case?) that constantly churns out new, fresh meat with the visions of the high pay highway in their eyes and thoughts of being a paid tourist also has a lot to do with it. Not to mention they make money from the school. It's a vicious circle that never really ends, and it's also a big reason the industry is in the shape it's in. No need to offer someone decent pay,bennies,and working conditions when the next "victim" is getting his CDL stamped as we speak.

Has he tried swift or cr england by any chance? those guys need drivers pretty bad i hear.

 

As I have posted many times, Swift actually has a very good thorough training program if a driver follows it and does not tune out because they think they know more than the folks doing the teaching. Read everything, study everything, practice everything.

 

Maybe they could team up, husband and wife? swift pays for it all right?
