cruise control inoperative

    I don't see any pictures that you are talking about. If you are just replacing the two switches you basically have a 50/50 chance of getting them mixed up. I think they work the same, but you'll just have to test your brake lights to make sure they still work properly before you put the dash back together.

    Sorry Heavyd, thought I posted the pics correctly. Do these show up for you?

    looking at the above picture, i believe these are the two switches i need to replace. (one on #10 and the other on #13) notice the black body of the switches are the same height.

    now, these are the new switches freightliner gave me. the one on the left is the brake switch and the one on the right is the cruise control switch. the black body of the cruise control switch is short. all of the other ones are taller. this creates my dilemma, does the cruise control switch go on #10 or #13 on the distribution block or and i looking entirely in the wrong location?

    I replaced a cruise control brake switch on my 98' 379 Pete. I needed to pull a center section of my dash and the switch was just below the ignition switch. A switch for your brake lights and a cruise control brake switch are different switches. The first one is normaly open the second is normaly closed.

    Ok, I see here what you are talking about. I see the difference too in the switches. I am not familiar enough with that manifold block to say for sure. Beltrans may be right that one switch is normally open and the other normally closed for the electrical contacts inside. The Brake switch one may be bigger because it is designed to handle a bigger electrical load for the brake lights. The cruise switch is basically just a signal for the ECM. You may just have to install them and then test to see if your brake lights work normally, then test your cruise. If it works I would say your good to go, if not switch them around and retest.
