The truck doesn't shut down, but safety is burning up the phones for the truck to get stopped...
@ Bulkmatic, in their eyes there is ZERO reason to go into violation. If the driver does, "they should have trip planned better." That's the answer they'll give, even in the event of a break down...
The advantage to the company? Just another way to throw the driver under the bus, IMO
I don't screw off, so I don't have that issue. If I do take more than 10-hrs, it's because I needed the rest... -
I've dealt w/e-log @Werner.They had good point and bad. With their system when you take a 10 hr.break you have to extend it to 10 hrs. 15 min. When you go to line 3 it automatically backs up 15 min. for pre-trip.
I did have it put me in violation a couple of times when I had gone to line 1 or 2 and not had sat.signal and wake up to find it had put me on line 1 or 4.It is a pain getting log dept. to correct them w/out calling them.
I am now with a co.that uses paper log and I find it a lot less stressful.Just log it like it happens and keep it legal is my companies policy now.If you can't make a delivery on time call dispatch and let them know at the earliest possible time so they can reschedule.
did like the recap on e-logs and DOT will only want to see the screen with available hrs.if stopped for inspection. -
Never used one. Most experienced drivers I've talked to that do have them hate it. Most folks that never ran a loose leaf or two log books love it.
That should explain a lot. -
As for me, a typical run is from Louisville KY to somewhere within 100 miles of Marion OH to deliver. Pick up in Marion, two more pics in Chicago, then head west. A drop in Sacramento, then Oakland, and final in Menlo Park. Deadhead to Fresno to load, then Walton KY to deliver, then deadhead home.
I've done it in 7 days, but usually stretch it out to 9 or 10 to relax and take my time, and I can still find the 34 off I need without actually having to waste my time sitting for a day and a half.
Running the load on the computer says it takes 12 days to do it legal. So much for electronic logs. If you're getting more miles using them, you were doing something wrong to begin with.
By the way, I've never had a log book violation in 30 years. -
if i could modify it to where i could push back some hours in it so i could drive longer i would love it put until then i hate it not be able to control hours

I've always wondered about that one myself. It's a well-known trucker wive's tale for sure that I think companies don't mind getting spread around just to add a pinch of "Big Brother" into the mix. I've also heard guys claiming the fleet managers can tune the trucks to run differently via the QC. I'm thinkin' really? They've got that thing wired into the Cummins ECU (or whatever engine it is) to play with the tune or prevent the truck from starting? Sounds far fetched just a bit.

Everybodythat loves them right now will hate them after DOT goes to checking them!

I dont do qualcomm anymore but I heard some aluminum foil & 1/2 of a basketball works real good on qualcomm..
-
I'm sure it would but only one problem... The company would get awfully curious to find out why your truck just all the sudden disappeared and can't be found.
The company I run for, has map software on their computers that shows them where each and every truck and trailer is so you may find a way to hide but it won't be for long.
On a side note, I found out the hard way that blocking the the satellite signal for too long can also cause issues on your logs. I had the truck parked under a metal roofed car port like thing for most of the day and it caused somethin to go haywire because my logs all the sudden said I drove for like 9 hours straight when I hadn't done any driving at all. Had to have the log department fix it and was told to be careful in the future about blocking the signal from the Qualcomm antenna.
