Been out of driving almost three years drove for sixteen years. Was thinking about getting back into driving after my injury heels. Do you think I can get a driving job? After being out of a truck that long.

I would hurry up. They gauge your experience on the past 3 years only. Once you pass the 3 year mark, you have to go through a refresher course and back out with a trainer. It's more of an insurance thing.

Watkins Sheperd sticks students straight in a truck without a trainer. That's an option if others give you a hard time.

I`ll Never agree with the trucking industry, on WHY they must, INSIST on this so called refresher course. This is just another way they can stick a fee on you, so you owe them money for this refresher course. 16 years driving, 3 not. Thats all they have to do is, walk you out to a truck, do your pre-trip in front of them, hook up, back into 2-3 doors, drop your trailer. By watching you back up, will show if you can drive. I can watch a driver do this, and definitely tell if he can drive. Then we`ll go around the block or 2, I can tell again, if he can drive. So, why put the guy through these ridiculous refresher courses? Us Veteran drivers have a natural instinct to see if you can drive. Every Veteran driver on this board can watch a driver do these steps and tell if the guy can drive.

Thinks for all the replies. I would like to get back into driving in the near future. But I did not want a big hastle. I know how to drive, and back. So I guess I will keep all of my options open. Also just have had three driving jobs in sixteen years. And good driving record and a good work history. Keep the comments and advise think you all. But as a diver I am always learning after all of these years of driving.
