Noooobie

    Hey,

    My name is Brad and I am considering a career change as a truck driver. I am in my mid 40's divorced, kids grown up etc.... I have been out of work for a while and have struggled starting my own company. With that I really enjoy being on my own and driving and have always had an interest. I believe this is the time to make a move and start a new career.

    I live in Southern California and am considering a otr company that offers the trainning and support to get my cdl and start driving. Money and security is a big issue right now so I think this is the best solution for my circumstances.

    After reading posts I understand that this is not the ideal scenario and I will have to put up with some crap for 6 months to 2yrs but i already understand this going into it and I have had crappy circumstances in ALL of my jobs and have pushed through.

    What should one consider when going this route ? Good Trainning, Cost, Pay, Support, Conditions, Guaranteed miles if such a thing ? lol

    Lastly can anyone make a reccomendation of a good company in the Los Angeles, Fontana or San Diego areas ?

    I would suggest if you can get your training done at a local school if you can if not there are acouple companies that train and then you sign a contract and then work for them. I can't say which is a better company but do a search and plenty will come up. If you get your training from an accredited school then your options are a little better but the big thing will be you won't have to sign an 12-18 month contract with a company. I also suggest sticking out the first year at 1 company and then making a change because you'll have the required experience most companies want. Good Luck and stay safe.

    Once you get your CDL A from an accredited school I'd recommend Schneider but to be honest I've been here 7 plus years and the company is a good fit for me.... But i will neither take the credit or blame for your decision if you choose SNI.

    welcome... Tennman is correct. if you can get a local school, thats your best route. that way you are not tied down already to a conpany you may not like in the end. good luck with your choices and hope this new year works out for you!

    Thanks so much for ther replies, good advice. I am going to do some more local research of both schools and company sponsored training.
