DOT Using prepass for Log Falsification

About 3 years ago I was pulled over in Oregon by OSP because one of my marker lights was out... The officer has a computer in his car that tells him what time I passed through the scales in OREGON ONLY... which resulted in a log book violation. Bottom line is, make sure your log book matches up with your pre pass when you go by a scale!!! There are alot of drivers who sit on there pre pass so it wont record when you pass by, you only do this when the scale is CLOSED.... I know Oregon and Washington and also California leave there pre pass turned on even when there closed... DRIVE SAFE and LEGAL

Oh, by the way. My log book violation (Falsifying) was a little over two hundred bucks....

 

To bad some drivers have to wait until they pay a fine to listen to me

Not directing that towards you, but simply I say this all the time and they refuse to believe me sometimes.

ANYTHING that is recorded will be used against your logs either on the road or during an internal DOT audit/lawsuit/vehicular manslaughter charges.

LOG LEGAL ALL THE TIME GUYS/GALS

 

I don't know about per-pass some states might use it others might not. Its like everything else in this industry. Every state might be different. I do know that they will pull Quelcomm records though. That could get messy in a big hurry, if your prone to running off the books. Most companies require that your logs match the Quelcomm record.

No they do not. CAT Scale removed the time stamping from all their machines. All that is there now is a City, State, and Date. Remember if you scale that city better be on your log at least as a flag if nothing else.

 

Did they recently change? I haven't looked at the receipts myself, but I will clarify this very soon as well we are auditing drivers logs and my auditors will know if the times aren't on them.

Look at the top left hand row of numbers and the top one is USUALLY the time.
I think they may now only do the Military hours and minutes as to they used to do the military hours, minutes and seconds.

But see if that number doesn't match the "local" time (should match your cell phone).

But, if you don't have prepass, won't you have to stop for every scale you come to?

 

Just to reassure you! It is illegal for a DOT oficer to look at your qualcom unless, you are using an onboard logging device (example Weirner).

If it will help show you are right then by all means let them look. If it will only hurt you do not show them.

With that said: YOu should make sure your logs match the qualcom because if you are in an accident the qualcom can be subpoenied and the company must provide the qualcom. The qualcom can prove if you was over your hours of service or not.

My best advice: Log it as you do it and run legal so you don't have to worry/stress over what "anyone" is looking at and it will only reassure you won't go to prison for someone crashing into you.
