i have a black 29 tuned and tweeked to about 27 watts. i love it. As far as that radio, i'd pass and get something else like maybe one of those Connex's on that site. i know nothing about that place tho and would instead go to an actual shop and see what they got.

My thoughts would be to buy a stock radio and a small amplifier if you feel that you need power and use the the money you saved towards for an antenna.
-
No radio is worth a darn without a good antenna, so make sure you have a good antenna.

If all you have room for is a radio, and not a Amp too, and all your interested in is AM regular CB Channels, then that is not a bad radio...But if you have room for a small 2-pill Amp, then just get a regular Cobra 29 and a 2-pill Amp for not much more money than that radio, and you'll see over double the watts...closer to 250w's vs that radio doing 90w's.
The neat thing about the RFX 75 unit, is it bolts on to the back of the radio, and replaces the internal finals...By being on the back of the radio, the heat from the unit does not affect the internal parts of the radio like the old "Stinger Boards" did, that would be placed on the inside of the radio...
Magnum is now even installing RFX 75's to the back of their Omegaforce S45 right from the factory...
RFX 75 is a good alternative for guys who want to run a little "Heat" but don't have room for a separate Amp, or don't want to spend mega-bucks for a Export...Any Export radio that does 100w's would cost you well over $250... -
Thx for the replies... never thought about a kicker... I've don't even know what one would cost, but think I'll be looking.

Not bad at all. Radio is $100... RFX 75 is $50... Peak / Tune and RFX 75 install is usually around $50... so $210 for a new "turn key" setup is a good deal.
With all of the excellent skip conditions happening and skip only going to get better as 2012 progresses, I'd at least look into a sideband radio. You can buy a Galaxy 959 with sideband for well under $200 that will "scream" when peaked / tuned by a good tech. -
Like somebody already said; your antenna is key. When running any kind of power, a good SWR becomes even more critical. Especially running the mosfet finals.

Ok I don't know what sideband is.... plase help
